3D analyzed and extruded product - part naming

How do you guys handle custom products part naming? We use exploded part numbers in our typical cabinet reports for the shop but don't have a good way for the custom 3D stuff. Do you do it manually as a separate drawing? What does the conversation look like with shop personnel who are newer to the industry? How much time does it take up explaining things in the engineering department if so?

See, I can explode a product (not sure why the explode product button only works on the parts and not the product #, must be a MV bug), but if I drew the product as a big assembly, sometimes its hard to fit on the sheet big enough for the shop to see it. It's also difficult to layout because the part labeling only works in top view, so you almost have to build it like its on its side in 3D. More often than not I analyze and save it before realizing that i should have rotated the whole thing in 3D. Then there are other issues, like if I have a flat cone half moon part, how do I explode that correctly to show the shop? I suppose I have to show a custom exploded 3D view and then the MV product exploded view? Not all of our drafters or shop personnel have the expertise of knowing how something might have been engineered. Interested in hearing what others are doing concerning these issues.
