Assisting a Friend with SQL Migration from an Old Server to a New High-Performance PC – Will SQL Work on Windows 11?
Hi,
I'm helping a friend migrate their Microvellum SQL database from an old server to a new, high-performance PC that will be used as the SQL server.
The original setup consists of one server running SQL and two workstations that connect to it. The new machine is not a dedicated server but a powerful PC. We want to know if SQL Server will work well on Windows 11 in this setup.
Here are the specs of the new PC:
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS (8 cores/16 threads, up to 5.1 GHz)
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- Storage: 2x 1TB NVMe SSD
- Display: 4K UHD Triple Display (HDMI/DP1.4/Type-C)
- Connectivity: WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 2.5Gbps Ethernet
Can anyone confirm if SQL Server will run smoothly on Windows 11 with this configuration? Any advice or recommendations for migrating the database and connecting the workstations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
