Foundation Library - Changing 3d layers

Question 1
How do you change the layer that 3d parts/hardware are drawn on?

Scenario - We want to change things such as hinges, handles, cabinet levelers, etc to draw on separate layers instead of all coming in on 3D_HWR so that we have better control while creating sheets and exporting to rendering software.

Will changes to layers be overwritten with library updates?
