How are companies handling the drop for the “Lock Drop Front Distance” on drawer boxes?

The basic setting in the spec groups is a fixed number based on weather or not a lock is present in a drawer.  In our case it is set to 1”.  For the most part this works but there are many times it could be better.  I am wondering how everyone else handles this.

We are currently using BHK stock drawer sides for all of our commercial boxes.  As many probably know they come in your basic stock sizes but in our case depending on color/material the availability varies to the point of only being able to get 3, 4, 10.

Stock Sizes:  3, 4, 6, 8, 10

While the stock 1” drop works fine for production purposes it would be more efficient if the drop would then round the drawer box front to the next available stock size.  (3, 4, 6, 8, 10)

We have a few extra sizes setup as stock to do smaller and “custom” file drawers. And we cut and adjust for those custom sizes.  But ideally for everything else it would pick “stock sizes” based on a list of options.

Building off of the info above when I really look at the drawer box front height it would then be good to also consider the Lock Location, Pull Location, etc. to make sure the front doesn’t drop to a location where it would interfere with the pulls, etc.
