Hey ya'll, just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if there's any settings that can be adjusted to fix it. And if not, I'm wondering how much support this would have to be developed into a future Toolbox update.
Currently, Item Numbering options work as followed:
Increment by Project & Whole Number
Room 1 - 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
Room 2 - 4.0, 5.0, 6.0
Room 3 - 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, ect
Increment by Project & Decimal
Room 1 - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03
Room 2 - 1.04, 1.05, 1.06
Room 3 - 1.07, 1.08, 1.09, ect
Increment by Room & Whole Number
Room 1 - 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
Room 2 - 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
Room 3 - 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, ect
Increment by Room & Decimal
Room 1 - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03
Room 2 - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03
Room 3 - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, ect
My company needs item numbers to follow this convention:
Room 1 - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03
Room 2 - 2.01, 2.02, 2.03
Room 3 - 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, ect
This convention ensures that item numbers are unique throughout the entire project, and each room has it's own unique prefix.
It's possible to make this work with Microvellum, but it makes things difficult for two reasons:
1. Our workaround is to work room by room and change the item number for the first cabinet in the room to the new item number prefix for that room. It always tries to use the highest item number in the entire project, so any new cabinets dropped in the room will have the correct prefix. However, if you then go back to the lower numbered room, any cabinets dropped in will automatically try to use highest item number. You have to remember to manually change this to the correct item number for that room, otherwise it'll be incorrect.
2. Another workaround we have is to ignore item numbers altogether until the entire project is complete. Then go into Overdrive Pro, sort by room, then renumber all cabinets for each room by selecting them. This is easier to ensure nothing gets missed, but also means we then have to go back into each room and use the Refresh Item Numbers from database command to have them correctly show in model/paper space.
Both workaround end up using a decent amount of time, and make it easy to make mistakes.
