Microvellum Introduces New Software Versioning Schema

If you’re like most users, the version or build number of your software may not be that important. Whether it’s a beta major, minor, or beta build number doesn’t really matter, right? What is important is knowing whether or not the build you are running is the most current and being able to have a clear understanding of the features available in the software build. So, we’ve made some changes to our build numbering schema to reduce the confusion and help users be more informed.

As of February 3, 2020, our software build numbering schema will be as follows:
  • Build “20.1.0203.641” = (Platform).(Platform ID).(Build Date).(Supported OS Bit + Build ID)
  • Platform: The latest AutoCAD platform supported by the build. Note: Microvellum Software is supported on 2020, 2019, and 2018 AutoCAD platforms. The platform number reflects the highest AutoCAD platform supported. So, in this latest release, AutoCAD 2021 is not supported.
  • Platform ID: An incremental number that is linked to the Platform and Build Date. If the Platform spans more than one calendar year, the Platform ID will increment to 2, 3, etc. In a normal development cycle, the Platform ID should not exceed 2.
  • Build Date: A calendar date referencing the day the software build was made.
  • Supported OS Bit: Identifies the supported operating system bit type, either 64-bit or 32-bit (otherwise known as “x86” or “86”).
By putting a focus on the supported platform and calendar date, we can maintain meaning in our software builds and better communicate the nature of the changes made within our software.

Important Notes:
This change to our build numbering schema does not include any major modifications to Microvellum’s framework. Our Development team is still working from the same foundation that has been in development for the past 18 months. To learn about the latest advancements, fixes, and new features available within the latest build, please check out the Release Notes.

In support of this new build numbering schema, our flagship product, Toolbox, will start carrying the label that represents the Platform. Our latest Controlled Release is Toolbox 2020. If you are running Toolbox on standard AutoCAD, our Toolbox AC (AutoCAD Companion) is also supported on AutoCAD 2020, 2019, and 2018.
