Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Microvellum CAD Design and Development Assistant. The assistant will be responsible for collaborating closely with the Lead Drafter and Project Manager to provide on-the-ground support and communication regarding all aspects of custom cabinet projects from design through production. You are the on-location partner to the Lead Drafter, and are experienced with Microvellum. 


Responsibilities

  • Follow the lead of the D&D Director to assist in design of new projects:
    • Use Microvellum to draft the client’s and Rowan’s vision for the project
    • Adhere to Rowan’s workflow and standards
    • Follow directions and give input on design
  • Redlines: Address redlines from the D&D director and client in each design iteration
  • Shop Drawing Preparation: Convert the project design into shop drawings which adhere to rowans standards
  • Shop Drawing Revisions: Address change orders or corrections efficiently 
  • Participate In Design Meetings: Record all the information received in a design meeting in an organized way
  • Site Measure With The Shop Foreman and D&D Director: Accurately represent field conditions on site in the design and shop drawings
  • Special Order Specification: Properly spec out and document Rowan-provided special order items, so that they can be ordered by the project manager
  • Hours Tracking:
    • Accurately record time spent on projects
    • Create accurate project reports
  • Project Tracking:
    • Update and maintain project overview documents


Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microvellum CAD program (2+ years experience)
  • BONUS: CNC programming knowledge.
  • Experience measuring field conditions on job sites
  • Experience communicating with clients, vendors and subcontractors 
  • Must have some sort of background in cabinet building (strongly preferred) woodworking, building construction, engineering or fabrication. Professional experience preferred but not required.
  • A relevant portfolio of professional work to show
  • Fluent in Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Mail)
  • Attention to detail and strong, effective personal organizational skills required to maintain consistency of workflow and to communicate all aspects of project design between designer and shop team
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Positive presence and collaborative, curious nature a must!
  • Reliable: tardiness is not tolerated
  • Excellent references
  • Reliable transportation, live within commuting distance to the shop, located in Kingston, NY


1 Day Trial

The applicant will be invited to spend a day with our design lead to demonstrate their ability/competence drafting. The trial will be casually supervised. The pass/fail threshold is not solely based on technical ability but also on the candidate’s willingness to ask questions, ability to troubleshoot problems, the speed at which they learn and implement a new skill, etc. etc.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting at $28.00/hour (Negotiable, depending on experience)
  • Health reimbursement account
  • 4 weeks PTO
  • 40 hours, 4 x 10's; 3 day weekends (Shop schedule is Monday-Thursday 7am-5:30pm, can be flexible for this position if needed/appropriate)
