I know many power users have customized spec groups and wizards to leverage formula driven materials to generally simplify and speed up work flow, currently I’m attempting to do the same. I’d like to know what additions people have made that have had the biggest impact.
Currently I have modified the material selection process so I can designate up to 12 materials and 12 Edge tapes ( select from a lookup table or customize). They each have customizable labels (Lam1, Lam2,CT1 etc). These feed into project wide blocks via attributes (most commercial jobs I run only have about 6 materials and I figure I can copy the spec group and add another additional 12 if ever I need to). I then ‘’assign” material pointer groups to that material. IE base cab finished faces= Lam 1. The Material label is added to my 2d drawings automatically, I’d like to reference the material not the cabinet group.
That way i can have two different colored doors auto annotated on the same 2 door cab if I change the material locally.
I also plan to assign a render layer to each material and build in a switch which either draws on one of 12 material layers or on the existing cabinet group layers. This way when drawing by material, visually the layer and render reflects the actual material thus minimizing mistakes.
I’ll also add wizard prompts for all the commonly changed globals, prompts to select tools based on material type and thickness.
What other useful features have you integrated successfully?
