Subassembly Library Management

I'm curious if anyone on CCL has had to clean up a really rough library and dealt with duplicate subassemblies? Is there a good way to sort the wheat from the chaff without having to test each one individually?
If I do have to test them, does anyone have a method that's worked for them?
