Subassembly Save Levels?

Maybe I am understanding this wrong... but it never seems to do what it should...
"To the Project – Saving to the project level means that all subassemblies in the project, with the same subassembly name, will receive any changes that were made to the subassembly."

Doesn't overwrite the other "Wood Drawer Box" subassemblies in the same project.
The subassembly names are formulaic, one being '=Bottom_Drawer_Type'  & the other '=Top_Drawer_Type'  -- even if I assume that it's only going overwrite subassemblies with the exact same raw value (formula in this case) it doesn't.

Do I really have to go to each product in the project using this subassembly and manually make the changes?
