Understanding hardware items in reports

Foundation: 25.1024

I need some help understand the relationship between hardware items and how/when they are included in reports.

Scenario:
1) We added a bunch of faucets to our custom sink subassembly.
2) The faucet types are filtered by a "Brand" drop down.
3) Since we are filtering by brand, we kept short names: ie "Kitchen Faucet Name", "Vanity Faucet Name".
4) We add the faucets in the Hardware tab with the names matching the faucet names.
5) We did not add them as hardware items in the material file.

When we run the hardware report they show up, but since the faucet names are shortened, they do not include the brand or the fact that it's a faucet in the name.

So I added a prefix & suffix in the Hardware tab faucet name: Faucet_Brand&" " &Faucet_Type&" Faucet".

Now when I run the report, the name shows up with the prefix & suffix, however it shows a quantity of 0 even though the quantity in the Hardware tab is 1.

So it appears that in order for hardware to show on reports correctly, the name of the hardware in the Hardware tab must match the hardware drawing name.

I guess my question therefore becomes: is there a way to give hardware an "Alias" name for reports without having to add modify/filter the actual hardware report?
