Collections

Collections

If more than one style is used in a report, the styles can be grouped into a Collection.

While a report can have multiple collections of styles, there can only be one collection applied to a report at a time.

A collection can be created in a couple of different ways:

  1. Filling out the Collection Name style property found in the Object Inspector.

  2. Fig. 1 – Style Designer > Object Inspector > Main > Collection Name

  3. Selecting Create Style Collection… from the Style Designer ‘Actions’ menu.

  4. Fig. 2 – Style Designer > Actions > Create Style Collection…
Using the second method will automatically generate the collection.

Manual Creation

  1. Open the Style Designer
  2. Select a style. Select Add Style if necessary, and populate the property fields for the style.
  3. Enter a name into the Collection Name property. This name will become the name of the primary folder for your collection.
    1. Moving a style from one collection to another will change the collection name property.
    2. Renaming a collection will change the collection name property of all of the styles therein.
    3. Deleting the value of the collection name property of a style will disassociate a style from a collection.
  4. Configure the conditions. This isn’t strictly necessary, but without conditions, when a collection is applied to a report, the styles will be applied from top to bottom sequentially. This means the last style from the collection would be applied to the report.
  5. Set the style settings of your choice.
  6. Select the OK button near the bottom of the Style Designer dialog.

Automatic Creation

  1. Open the Style Designer dialog.
  2. Select Create Style Collection from the Actions menu within the Style Designer
  3. Establish the parameters of the collection.

    1. Collection Name – Name of the collection.
    2. Color – The primary color for the style collection.
    3. Nested Level – The value associated with the level of nesting in the report.
    4. Nested Factor – Specifies the nesting factor, which impacts the clarity of colors.
    5. Borders – Enable or disable borders.
    6. Remove Existing Styles – While selected, the styles and collections already present in the Style Designer will be deleted. While disabled, a new collection will be added without removing preexisting styles and collections.
    7. Component – The components located on any bands that are checked in this panel will have the style applied. No collection will be created if no bands are checked.
    8. Preview – For previewing a report with the collection of styles.
  5. Select the OK button.
  6. Select the OK button near the bottom of the Style Designer when you are satisfied with the styles in the collection.

Apply a Collection of Styles

Select Home > Select Style.
