FAQ: Toolbox BSB General Overview

General Overview

  1. What is BricsCAD?
    1. BricsCAD is a powerful CAD software that supports both 2D drafting and 3D modeling using the industry-standard DWG file format. BricsCAD offers Microvellum users a compatible CAD engine that works seamlessly with Toolbox. BricsCAD uses the same familiar CAD commands and tools you’re already accustomed to, so there’s no need to relearn the basics. Whether you're drafting, editing, or managing layers, the core functionality mirrors what you already know, eliminating the typical learning curve that comes with switching CAD platforms. This continuity ensures a smooth and easy transition, allowing you to stay productive and confident as you move into the BricsCAD environment.
  2. What motivated Microvellum to create the integration with BricsCAD?
    1. We wanted to expand the CAD options available for Toolbox and create more opportunities to innovate. BricsCAD offers full DWG compatibility, runs Toolbox as you would expect, and provides a familiar experience for CAD users. This integration gives us the flexibility to evolve the Toolbox platform in new ways, while continuing to deliver the performance and functionality users count on.
  3. Will Microvellum continue to support Toolbox OEM?
    1. No, Microvellum will not continue long-term support for the Toolbox OEM version of Toolbox. Support will be phased out on July 20, 2025. After that date, updates and full installations will no longer be available. Going forward, users will need to transition to either Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) or Toolbox AC, depending on their preferred CAD environment.
  4. What is Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
    1. Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) is Microvellum’s new bundled solution that replaces Toolbox OEM. It includes BricsCAD Pro and delivers the full functionality of BricsCAD Pro alongside Microvellum Toolbox—all packaged together in a single, streamlined installation.
  5. What is the release date for Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
    1. The scheduled release date for Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) is July 21, 2025.
  6. How does the transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) work?
    1. Transitioning from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB is a flexible, guided process that allows you to evaluate the new environment, prepare your team, and convert when you’re ready, all while ensuring minimal disruption to your work.
    2. Start with a 45-Day Toolbox BSB Trial
    3. You can begin with a 45-day Toolbox BSB trial, which will be available for all Toolbox OEM users to activate from the Microvellum Portal. This gives you the opportunity to:
      1. Explore the BricsCAD environment using your own projects and workflows.
      2. Get familiar with the interface, tools, and performance.
      3. Evaluate how Toolbox BSB fits your team’s needs.
      4. The trial period allows you to build confidence in the platform before initiating the conversion.
      5. If you need more time, you can extend your trial by 45 days within the Microvellum Portal
    1. Use Video-based Education to Get Familiar with BricsCAD
      1. To support your evaluation, Microvellum provides training resources specifically for Toolbox BSB through the INNERGY PeAk learning platform:
      2. A Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) training plan featuring 15 Microvellum-produced videos tailored to help users transition from your existing CAD workflows.
      3. Access to over 100 curated Bricsys training videos, covering BricsCAD fundamentals, navigation, and productivity workflows.
      4. These resources are designed to help your team onboard effectively and build familiarity with the BricsCAD environment prior to conversion.
    2. Convert When You're Ready
      1. Once your team is comfortable in the BricsCAD environment and you’re ready to move forward:
      2. Log into the Microvellum Portal and look for the option to convert your Toolbox BSB license.
      3. If you’re not a Portal Admin, you’ll need to contact someone who is.
      4. Admins will be guided through an agreement form and asked to review the updated EULA.
      5. Once the EULA is accepted, the license becomes active.
      6. License details, including credentials and download links, will appear in the Portal.
      7. A confirmation will be created, along with a link to helpful setup resources.
    3. This automated, portal-guided process is designed to make your transition to Toolbox BSB as simple and efficient as possible, empowering you to evaluate, train, and convert at your own pace with full support every step of the way.
  7. If I already own a BricsCAD license, is there an installation of Toolbox available outside of the BSB?
    1. Currently, installing Toolbox alongside an existing BricsCAD installation—purchased directly from Bricsys—is not supported. This integration is planned for a future release.
  8. Is BricsCAD considered a lower-tier CAD platform compared to other CAD software?
    1. Not at all. BricsCAD is a powerful, professional-grade CAD platform that fully supports the DWG file format and delivers a robust environment for both 2D drafting and 3D modeling. It includes many of the same features found in leading CAD solutions, along with unique tools and added flexibility that make it a strong, future-ready alternative.
