FAQ: Toolbox BSB Installation and Transition Process

Installation & Transition Process

  1. Can I have both Toolbox OEM and Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) installed side-by-side for transitioning?
    1. Yes, Toolbox OEM and Toolbox BSB can be installed side-by-side on the same computer during your conversion. This allows you to evaluate Toolbox BSB using a trial license while maintaining access to your existing OEM version.
    2. While both versions can coexist, Microvellum recommends fully transitioning to either Toolbox AC or Toolbox BSB, as Toolbox OEM will no longer be supported after July 20, 2025 and it’s critical that all workstations accessing shared data use the same Microvellum version.
  2. What happens to my existing Toolbox OEM licenses after I transition to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
    1. Once you complete your official transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB, your Toolbox OEM licenses will remain active indefinitely.
    2. However, Toolbox OEM, including all existing modules access, CAD functionality, etc. will be left behind in a plateaued state. This means Toolbox OEM will remain functional, is unmaintained, and at some point in the future, incompatibility will occur. Note: any new modules purchased will only be associated with Toolbox BSB.
  3. What is the best way to transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) while minimizing disruption to projects?
    1. We recommend installing the latest build of Toolbox OEM and sandbox testing it before July 20 to ensure the changes between versions are limited to the Brics envrionment.
    2. The most effective way to transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) is to start with a trial of Toolbox BSB. This allows your team to explore the BricsCAD environment hands-on while continuing work in your existing or sandbox environment until you're fully confident in the switch.
    3. Evaluate with Minimal Risk
      1. Begin by activating a trial license of Toolbox BSB. Use this time to:
      2. Explore the interface and functionality.
      3. Identify any key differences in workflow.
      4. Test how your current projects and product data operate within BricsCAD.
    4. Train with Targeted BricsCAD Lessons
      1. To accelerate your learning curve and minimize disruption:
      2. Leverage the BricsCAD lesson plans available in PeAk, a comprehensive library of over 100 videos (6+ hours) tailored for users choosing to make the switch from an existing CAD environment to BricsCAD.
      3. These lessons cover interface navigation, drawing tools, command usage, and best practices, everything you need to work confidently in BricsCAD.
    5. Enable Team Readiness
      1. While evaluating, help others in your company get familiar by:
      2. Sharing access to the trial software and video content.
      3. Encouraging hands-on practice with real or test projects.
      4. Reviewing key differences together as a group to build collective understanding.
    6. Convert When Confident
      1. Once your team is comfortable and aligned, proceed to convert your trial into active Toolbox BSB licenses. This approach ensures:
      2. A smooth, low-friction transition.
      3. Minimal downtime for your projects.
      4. Full confidence in your new BricsCAD-based environment.
  4. Do I have to finish my open projects before migrating from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
    1. No, you do not have to finish your existing project(s) before migrating to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD). You can simply install the software, open it, enter your License ID and Activation Password, select your configuration, and then open your existing project to continue working without interruption. Toolbox BSB is designed to be compatible with your current project data and workflow, allowing you to transition seamlessly without needing to recreate or convert your work.
  5. Who can help me if I need assistance with installing or migrating to Toolbox BSB?
    1. If you need help with your installation or migration, Microvellum’s Technical Support team is available to assist you. They can answer questions, help diagnose issues and provide guidance for installing Toolbox BSB and migrating from Toolbox OEM or Toolbox AC.
