FAQ: Toolbox BSB Licensing and Pricing

FAQ: Toolbox BSB Licensing and Pricing

Licensing & Pricing

  1. Are there costs associated with converting to Toolbox BSB?
    1. There are no out-of-pocket costs to convert your existing Toolbox OEM licenses to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD), provided you complete the conversion within the next 18 months. Your current annual User License Maintenance (ULM) and OEM maintenance fees—based on your existing payment cycle—will be applied toward your Toolbox BSB subscription, making the conversion cost-neutral for your existing licenses. If you add new users or increase your license count, additional charges will apply. After the 18-month window, this cost-neutral conversion offer may no longer be available, and price increases may apply when converting to Toolbox BSB.
  2. If I convert to Toolbox BSB, will I also transition to a subscription pricing model?
    1. When converting to Toolbox BSB, any software modules and licenses you previously purchased under a perpetual model will remain owned by you. The only component that will transition to a subscription is the CAD platform—referred to as the Toolbox BSB license—which will be provided at no additional cost.
    2. Alternatively, you may choose to convert to Toolbox AC or Toolbox BC (available in 2026) instead of Toolbox BSB. This option allows you to retain your perpetual license status, but you will be responsible for separately purchasing your own CAD platform through Autodesk or Bricsys (for BricsCAD). Please note: If you choose either Toolbox AC or Toolbox BC, your access to Toolbox OEM will be suspended. All rights to your perpetually licensed modules will then be associated exclusively with the new platform you’ve selected.
  3. How do I obtain a Toolbox BSB license?
    1. You can obtain a 45-day trial or official Toolbox BSB license directly from the Microvellum Portal under the Account Management section.
    2. Step 1: Activate a 45-day trial to evaluate the BricsCAD platform. You'll receive instructions for downloading, installing, and accessing video-based training resources.
    3. Step 2: Convert your Toolbox OEM licenses. Review and accept the conversion terms, then download and activate your software. The process is streamlined and user-friendly, allowing you to get up and running quickly and efficiently.
  4. Are there trial versions of Toolbox BSB available?
    1. If you would like to begin exploring Toolbox BSB, a 45-day trial version of the software will be available within the Software Management area of the Microvellum Portal for all existing Toolbox OEM users on July 21st.
    2. The total allowed seats provided within the trial license should align with your total Toolbox OEM seats. This will ensure all current users will be able to explore the Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) environment. To activate this trial, you must be a Portal Admin. If you currently use Toolbox AC and would like to evaluate Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD), you may request a trial from your Account Manager.
  5. Do I have to convert to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
    1. No, you are not required to convert to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD). However, after July 20, 2025, Toolbox OEM will no longer receive updates, and installation files will no longer be available through the Microvellum Portal or from our team
    2. While your existing installation will continue to function as it always has, choosing not to convert comes with some risks:
      1. If you lose access to your current installation files, reinstalling may become difficult or impossible.
      2. You will no longer receive updates or new features, meaning you'll fall behind as Microvellum continues to enhance and expand its software offerings.
    3. Remaining on your current build is an option, but we encourage conversion to ensure continued access to improvements, support, and long-term stability.
  6. Does Toolbox BSB include access to BricsCAD Shape?
    1. No, Toolbox BSB does not provide access to BricsCAD Shape. However, Shape is a free product offered by Bricsys and can be downloaded separately from their website.

User Concerns

  1. I just bought Toolbox OEM. Does this mean my investment is obsolete?
    1. No, your investment is not obsolete. You can continue using Toolbox OEM, and it will remain functional. You’ll also receive updates through July 20, 2025. After that date, no further updates or full installation files will be available, but your current installation will continue to work. Microvellum is transitioning to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) moving forward. When you're ready, you’ll have the option to convert to Toolbox BSB. A prorated subscription will be provided based on the time left on your current maintenance agreement, so you’re not losing value. In the meantime, we recommend activating the 45-day Toolbox BSB trial and reviewing the available training to prepare for the transition if or when you choose to make it.
  2. I use Toolbox AC, will I be impacted by the release of Toolbox BSB?
    1. If you're using Toolbox AC, you will not be impacted by the release of Toolbox BSB. There's no need to convert your license; Toolbox AC will continue to be supported and function as usual. Toolbox BSB is simply an alternative integration option for BricsCAD.
  3. Can I convert my Toolbox AC licenses to Toolbox BSB licenses?
    1. Yes, you can convert your Toolbox AC licenses to Toolbox BSB licenses if you choose to. This would involve switching to the version of Toolbox that includes BricsCAD instead of relying on a separate CAD license. If you're interested in making the switch, your Microvellum Account Manager can assist you.
  4. Why wasn’t there an earlier notice about the end of Toolbox OEM updates and the switch to BricsCAD?
    1. We understand this change may feel somewhat abrupt. We carefully considered the timing of this announcement to strike a balance between open communication and the work required to ensure a smooth transition. We held off on announcing the end of Toolbox OEM updates and the move to BricsCAD until everything was ready, such as the release date, transition plans, conversion tools, and support resources, so we could give you clear answers from the start.
    2. The July 21st date was tied to a release plan target already in motion. As features, tools, and support came together, the window for communication narrowed. We waited until we could provide complete information, but we recognize that made the notice feel shorter than ideal. Although additional updates to Toolbox OEM will not be released after July 21, your existing installations will continue to function as they do today and beyond, allowing you to continue working without disruption.
