The articles in this section of the Knowledge Base involve working with Master-Detail lists for display in reports. To learn more about Master-Detail Reports and how to access the Report Designer, see Creating a Master-Detail Report in Report Designer. This article provides an overview of Multilevel Nesting.
Adding multiple nesting levels to a Master-Detail report can help break down the information in a report. For each Detail band, the Data Relation and Master Component properties must be set. In this example, the Master data band is connected to the Products table. Products are broken down into the Subassemblies that make them up, Subassemblies are broken down into the Parts that make them up, and the Route lengths for those Parts are the final nested Detailed list.
Then it is necessary to select relations for these three bands for the Report Designer to be able to select the correct data for each detailed band. A relation establishes how each band connects to the preceding band.
