We are looking into gathering data from our workorders, but the cost of SQL Server is too much for a side project with potential but no firm payoff yet. Has anyone tried using MySQL or other SQL alternatives? From this description it sounds as if there is a possiblity as long as MV doesn't rely on the extra features of T-SQL: MySQL uses a more standard SQL language, while MS SQL Server uses Transact-SQL (T-SQL), which is an extended version of SQL with additional capabilities.

If not I'll start with the SQL Express sandbox & go from there.
