Creating Side-by-Side Reports with Sub Reports

The articles in this section of the Knowledge Base involve working with Sub Reports for display in your reports. To learn more about Sub Reports, and how to access this section within the Report Designer, see Understanding Sub Reports in Report Designer. This article provides an overview of inserting a Sub Report on a Data Band.

You can use the Sub Report component to create the Side-by-side report. The Side-by-side report consists of independent lists of data, located side by side. Figure 01 shows an example of a Side-by-side report template with the location of the Sub Report component on a page of the report template.

Fig. 01 – Report Template – Three Pages – Sub Report Side-by-Side

When rendering a report, independent data lists are displayed, based on the two Side-by-Side sub reports seen in Figure 01. Thus, it is possible to build more complex reports, for example: Put three Sub Report components side by side, and then, when the report is printed, three independent data lists are output.

Sub Reports can also be placed in Data Bands instead of directly on the report template page, as is demonstrated above.

When Figure 01 is printed, it appears like this:
