This short article and video will show you how to configure dimensions in your drawing to display both Imperial and Metric values in the dimension.
There are two levels of dual-unit dimensions. The first is setting the property of each dimension, and the second is setting the property of the dimension style used for the dimension.
First, set the property of each dimension. I have a drawing containing several dimensions.
Select the dimensions you want to display, both imperial and metric.
Press Ctrl + 1 to display the Properties dialog.
Scroll down to the section "Alternate Units."
Set the property "Alt enabled" to ON.
The selected dimensions now display both imperial and metric units.
Next, set the property of the preferred dimension styles so that every dimension drawn in the style will contain both unit values.
Determine which dimension style is current by entering SCL at the command prompt. In this case, it is 3/8" = 1'0".
Enter DIMSTYLE at the command prompt.
Highlight the style from the list on the left that matched your current style, or the preferred style to modify.
Click the Modify button on the right.
Click the tab "Alternate Units."
Check the checkbox ON for "Display Alternate Units."
Click OK and then Close.
All dimensions of that same style in the drawing should now display both imperial and metric values. You will need to use the Dimension Style Manager to modify each dimension style similarly.
The dimension style settings are drawing specific and must be saved to your drawing templates to be available each time you create a new drawing.
