How to Make a Project Level Specification Group for Multiple Materials

How to Make a Project Level Specification Group for Multiple Materials

The purpose of this article is to explain how to create an additional Project Specification Group to use multiple materials in a single project. For this article we will be using two different grained materials in one project.

1.      With Toolbox open, click "Toolbox Setup” at the top of the Microvellum Palette --> and then “Project Specification Groups" from the drop-down menu.

2.      The Project Specification Group Setup interface will appear. Right click on the default Specification Group and click “Copy Specification Group”. The Copy Specification Group Components dialog box will now pop up.

3.       An option to name the new Specification Group will be available at the top. We recommend naming your Spec Group after the material used to avoid confusion. In this example I will name my Specification Group "Laminex Oak".

4.      You will also have the option to create a copy of the Project Wizard, Global Variables, Cut Parts, Edgeband, Door Wizard, and Hardware Files. We will keep the default settings and only create a copy of our Cut Parts and Edgeband File. Click Okay.

5.      Change the name of the copied Cutpart File on the component side to the name of your Specification Group. It is important to change the name of the Cutpart File to avoid confusion with your other Spec Group.

6.      Select your created Specification Group and open the Material File.

7.      Once in the Material File, locate the pointer that you would like to change the material of. In this example, I am changing the material of the Base_Door from .6875 Core PL1-PL1 Grain to 1 Core PL1-PL1 Grain to be able to show the changes taking place. Locate the desired material in the Sheet Stock Library on the right-hand side, and make sure to click the arrow in the middle of the interface to complete the transfer of the material to the selected pointer. Click OK.

8.       Close the Project Specification Group Setup and select the Product Prompts for your desired product. In the upper right of the Prompts interface change the Specification Group Name to the Specification Group you created. Click OK.

9.      The products will redraw with the Specifications outlined in the Material File. In this example, I am measuring the material of my Base_Door to reflect the change to 1 Core PL1-PL1 Grain. The Base Door measure in at one inch. Confirming that the changes I made in the Specification Groups have taken affect.
