How to Use the Virtual Boring Machine Token

How to Use the Virtual Boring Machine Token

In a product’s spreadsheet, under the prompts tab, there is a section of columns available called Virtual Routing Instructions. This section of columns is used to add virtual machining tokens to a product, and most commonly used for virtual routing. Another token that you can add to this section of columns is a virtual bore token. This will add a hole or array of holes to any part that the token touches in 3D space.

To use the virtual boring, add the token name BORE followed by the following parameters:

  1. Parameter 1: Dim in X
  2. Parameter 2: Dim in Y
  3. Parameter 3: Dim in Z
  4. Parameter 4: Bore Diameter
  5. Parameter 5: [End Dim in X]
  6. Parameter 6: [End Dim in Y]
  7. Parameter 7: [Distance Between Holes]
  8. Parameter 8: Bore Depth

When using this token, parameters 1, 2, and 3 reference dimension from the product origin (usually the back left corner). Parameters 5, 6, and 7 are optional parameters that can be used to create an array of holes.

The virtual boring token is useful when you need a boring operation to span multiple parts within a product. Based on the parameters entered, any part that touches the array of holes will have the hole added to it.

Let’s look at an example:

In the picture below, we have added the BORE token to the Virtual Routing Instructions column and have populated the parameters to give us an array of holes at 1,1 from the product origin to 30, 30, at the height of .74 in Z.

We can see the array of holes runs through two different parts of the product. It is important to remember that since our Z location was at .74, the holes touched the top of the parts and placed on the top face. If we moved the Dim in Z parameter to somewhere in between .49 to .01, the hole locations would be placed on the bottom face of the parts.
