Notes
NOTE: Microvellum build 26.1.0915.641 is considered a Beta build, with several of the changes listed in this document requiring manual testing to be fully confirmed. Not every item within this beta release will be included in the finalized build once testing concludes. Project/Room UI Overhaul

A significant improvement has been applied to the Projects interface. Projects and rooms now live in a single searchable, filterable, sortable grid menu. Status, assignee, and category can be edited directly in the list, and projects can be created, duplicated, renamed and deleted without needing to open multiple different interfaces and menus. This new interface is not default but is available to select within one’s options. To enable it, open the Microvellum Options > General > Project Viewer Type > Grid.

Multiple fixes and changes to functionality have been added to this UI to enhance its usability. Fixes include:

  • The Open Project icon and the Add Project shortcut have been restored, so both routes into a project open the project interface again rather than failing to respond when used.
  • A new drop-down menu has been added that lists the most recent list of projects that have been opened and modified. This list updates as you open projects, from every route into the software.
  • Opening a drawing previously required a project to be opened first, which left specification groups and the product list inaccessible on their own. With the new grid view, both can be opened in from the same process without requiring any additional interfaces or input on the user end.
  • An issue was reported with deleting a category- previously, the deletion proceeded without warning what would be removed, the deleted category continued to appear in the projects menu afterward, and opening the category list following a project copy produced an error. This issue has been resolved- deleting a category now prompts a confirmation pop-up that explains what will follow, and the category leaves the grid immediately, and the category list opens without error after a project has been copied.
  • Project Properties was reportedly having issues wherein it would not open for projects whose names were not numeric, a plugin that failed to load took the whole dialog down with it, and refreshing the Material Wizards tab before a wizard had loaded crashed the dialog. All three have been corrected- Project Properties opens regardless of how the project is named, a plugin that fails to load no longer affects the rest of the dialog, and the Material Wizards tab can be refreshed at any point.
  • Projects created from the grid now honor auto-naming plugins, and the name field shows the generated name along with an explanation of where it came from.
  • Closing the new project window previously discarded the entry without asking, and new projects were given neither the default status configured for them nor the configured default name for their locations. Closing with the exit button now prompts for confirmation first, and both defaults are applied.
  • Project records were reportedly having issues wherein a second workstation could clear the project record while it was still open and in use, and the behavior was worse again where the clocks on the two machines differed. Saving also reported success regardless of the record had finished saving. This issue has been resolved- a project you have open can no longer be cleared away by another workstation regardless of any clock difference, and saving now confirms the project was written completely before reporting success.
  • A reported issue was occurring when examining when projects were created- previously, the date shown was taken from a folder or file timestamp, which changed whenever data was copied, restored, or moved to a new server. This issue has been resolved- the Created column in grid view (and the data storing when a project is created) is now derived from the project and room records themselves, so both projects and rooms show a reliable creation date that survives a copy, a restore, or a migration.
  • Renaming a project in place has been corrected so that the selection stays on the row you are renaming when the arrow keys are used, and a rename that is not permitted now states that it is not allowed rather than failing without explanation.
  • The Employees button is now presented as an interactive control in the project interface, rather than being drawn without the styling that identifies a control as clickable.
  • A limitation was reported with room categories- previously, no default category could be defined, so a category had to be assigned to every room by hand. This has been resolved- a room category can now be given a default that is applied automatically.
  • The project interface previously did not behave correctly when it was run inside the CAD plugin rather than from the application itself. It now behaves consistently in both contexts.
  • Undo in Edit Design Data was reportedly having an issue wherein the message shown on undo did not make clear what had been reversed. The message now states plainly what the undo has done.

Formula Syntax Repair Tool

  • A new utility has been added to the software to assist in the assessment of formulas. The new Formula Syntax Repair Tool utility scans your product library workbooks, reports the formulas that need attention, and walks you through correcting them. Each correction is shown beside the original formula and can be reviewed, edited, or declined before it is applied.
  • During the initial launch after updating or installing, this utility will have a first-time offer to scan with the repair tool, which can be accepted or refused. Afterward, this utility can be accessed by opening your Microvellum Settings › Options › Utilities. Access to the Formula Syntax Repair Tool can be controlled via the employee permissions screen, to ensure that only administrators and approved personnel can run it. The utility takes its own backup before it writes any correction; even so, because corrections are written directly to your library and cannot be undone, it is always recommended to ensure a backup is created before using it.

Drawing Fixes

Several issues that were reportedly occurring concerning drawings have been resolved, such as issues with product placement, plan and elevation views, flatshots, door profiles, and 3D representation.

  • Product placement on a wall was reportedly having a long-standing issue wherein the product was not placed at the point that was picked and instead jumped to the end of the wall, with the same behavior occurring in isometric views. This has since been corrected- a product is placed where you picked it, in isometric views as well as plan.
  • 'Place Product at Selected Point' previously had an issue that would occasionally occur, where the option would sometimes draw the first product in the selected category rather than the product which was currently selected. The command now draws the product you selected.
  • Plan views now update as the design changes, including cabinets associated to a wall, and Redraw 2D Walls redraws plan views as well as elevations rather than elevations alone.
  • Redrawing products previously forced plan or elevation drawings to redraw when a single product was changed. A change to one product now only affects that product.
  • Wall plans were reportedly having issues wherein they were drawn at incorrect depths, and cancelling a wall drawing command produced an error. Both have been corrected- wall plans draw at the correct depths and cancelling the command exits cleanly.
  • Dynamic title blocks were reportedly having an issue wherein they would not update, with the cause being linked to title blocks with auto-generated names. This issue has been resolved- the title blocks should update again, including in drawings whose blocks carry auto-generated names.
  • There was an issue with dynamic images- previously, the image shown in CAD would sometimes not match the image produced on the work order. Both images should now reflect the same content.
  • Flatshots previously positioned hardware incorrectly in the image and did not draw annotations as expected. Hardware is now placed correctly and annotations are drawn where they belong.
  • A reported issue was occurring with parts-list text, wherein the text would be scaled and positioned incorrectly on face frame drawings and parts weren't positioned at the drawing origin after a product was redrawn. This issue has been resolved- parts-list text is now scaled and placed correctly in all those cases.
  • Door profiles whose routes begin at a corner, such as Cathedral Ogee, had 3D representation issues. This has been resolved- these profiles now build as designed, accompanying other improvements to 3D door profiles.
  • An issue was reported with parts using an alternate profile- previously, they would not receive their dowels. This issue has been resolved- dowels are now applied correctly.
  • Notches below a certain size would sometimes produce an error rather than being drawn. This issue has been resolved- small notches are now produced without error.
  • Cutouts were reportedly having an issue wherein a cutout that contained dados would be dropped from the part. Cutouts containing dados should now be retained.
  • An issue was occurring with hex and round tables- previously, their 3D representations and cutouts did not draw reliably. This issue has been resolved- both draw consistently, including their cutouts.
  • Clearing geometry was previously slow once a product had been drawn, and could raise an error where geometry had already been removed. The process is now faster and no longer errors on geometry that is already gone.
  • There was an issue with restoring a session- previously, when a session was restored, parts with a base point offset applied were placed incorrectly, with the offset needing to be removed and reapplied to correct them. This issue has been resolved- a restored session places parts correctly with the offset still in place.
  • The 2D and 3D representations of a polyline would sometimes not match position. This has been corrected- the two should now match.
  • An issue was resolved- sometimes, products with multiple doors and windows would not render correctly. Usually, exceeding 3-4 windows or doors would cause this problem. This issue has been resolved- all windows and doors now render correctly.
  • An issue was occurring with split blind cabinets- previously, they would not draw correctly when dado construction machining was applied, with the machining erroneously applying on all parts of the product, even if the machining was only applied to the one portion of the product. This issue has been resolved- split blind cabinets now draw with their machining correctly.
  • The Erase, Move and Copy Parts commands were reportedly having an issue wherein they did not act correctly on the parts that were selected (erase would not erase the correct part, moved parts would remain in place, copied parts would fail to copy over correctly). All three now behave as expected.
  • Reports were received of an issue with redrawing a product- previously, it left a stale file reference behind, which caused the product to draw using a file that was no longer current. This issue has been resolved- the reference is updated when the product is redrawn.
  • Hardware machine tokens can now be applied to solids containing overlapping lines without producing an error.
  • Declining to open a drawing as read-only previously produced an unhandled error, and prevented from any other rooms from opening. Declining now gives a clear message, and the remaining rooms still open.
  • Library Specification Groups had an issue- previously, opening them before the material flip prompt appeared crashed the software, and the flip prompt itself crashed when parts required a grain decision. This issue has been resolved- neither action crashes, and the flip prompt handles parts that need a grain decision.
  • Viewports were reportedly having an issue wherein they came out blank when a drawing was published, and when printing or plotting to PDF. Viewport contents are now included in published, printed, and plotted output.
  • Reports were received of an issue with the Microvellum palette- previously, it could not be made smaller again once it had been expanded. This issue has been resolved- the palette can be resized in both directions.
  • Product Viewer commands no longer open the subassembly list unexpectedly when one is run.

Solid Model Analyzer & Smart Layers

Numerous changes were applied to the Solid Model Analyzer and functionality of Smart Layers.

  • The Solid Model Analyzer had an issue with metric handling, wherein unit translation was applied incorrectly, which led to tools not adjusting correctly during operations. This issue has been resolved- the SMA adjusts for the tool correctly in metric as well as imperial.
  • An issue with arc analysis has been resolved- the arc analysis settings and the routes generated from them were not accurate. To resolve this, arc analysis and routes have been reworked to increase accuracy and improve precision in calculation.
  • There was previously an issue wherein custom analyzed products previously would not nest at all. Solid Model products now nest as expected, and an analyzed product can be saved with its structure preserved.
  • 'Apply Smart Layers to Objects' is now available for usage with 3D solid objects.
  • Grain direction for analysis can now be controlled through Smart Layer parameters and carries into nesting, rather than having to be handled elsewhere.

Products and prompts

Issues were resolved with entering and editing prompt values, and the dialogs that surround them.

  • Product Prompts has been reworked to run modeless, so the drawing remains available while a prompt is open; the corrections below are part of that work.
  • The ESC now closes the Product Prompts window, to enable users to close the window via keyboard.
  • There was an issue with Show Formula- previously, right-clicking a prompt and choosing Show Formula would sometimes not open the editor, including on the prompt already selected when the window was opened. This issue has been resolved- the editor opens without issue.
  • A value entered in the Width box would sometimes produce an error. This is no longer the case- the product now draws as expected. 
  • Editing part materials was previously restricted to only library-level materials, and a material chosen in either the library or project specification group would overwrite the material in the other. This is no longer the case- project-level materials are now offered, and a choice made in one specification group stays within that group.
  • Reports were received of an issue with the Hardware Material Wizard- previously, it did not enter your selection when the material was not already present in the project, and did not display the selection consistently. This issue has been resolved- the wizard enters your selection whether or not the material already exists in the project, and shows it reliably.
  • The bay options prompt was reportedly having an issue wherein its contents were not rendered correctly. The prompt now displays as intended.
  • An issue was occurring with the product list- previously, it did not reflect prompt values after they were changed. This issue has been resolved- the product list refreshes once prompt values are changed.

Product list and Part Properties

A handful of fixes were applied for issues pertaining to the product list, Name Manager, and the dialogs that are used to inspect and modify parts.

  • The Name Manager is now available directly from the Product List, so a rename can now be done there.
  • Users reported an issue with the Product List- previously, it did not refresh on its own after products were added, edited, or deleted, so the list had to be closed and reopened. This issue has been resolved- the list refreshes itself as products change.
  • The Modify Parts tab previously applied a modification to a part other than the one selected. The tab has been reworked- a modification applies to the intended part only, including when several parts are selected together.
  • Help text in Part Properties has been rewritten to be more accurate. 
  • 'Send To Library Designer' was reportedly having an issue wherein the command did not complete correctly. The command has been corrected.

Subassemblies

Saving, promoting and reverting subassemblies have been reworked so the same rules apply everywhere in the software. The individual corrections below are part of that work. For more information on the way subassemblies function as of this build, visit the Microvellum Subassemblies Guide article. 

  • Subassembly saving has been overhauled, with issues of saving subassemblies to different levels having been resolved. Nested subassemblies now travel with their parent subassembly, row-level subassemblies save on a product level, and saving a nested subassembly to a product now works without issue. 
  • A reported issue was occurring with saving a product- previously, a product containing several different subassemblies that each used the same nested subassembly would not save properly. This issue has been resolved- that product saves correctly.
  • Subassemblies previously failed to save in products when the product they were placed in was copied and pasted in Edit Design Data. That issue should no longer occur- subassemblies in these products will save properly. 
  • Subassembly names were previously matched with regard to capitalization, so the same subassembly was treated as two different records depending on how it had been typed, and a name containing an apostrophe (Baker’s Drawer for example) caused an error. Names are now matched without regard to capitalization, and apostrophes in a name are handled correctly.
  • There was an issue with subassembly prompt values- previously, a value entered in one subassembly could be applied to a different one, but Save & Close in the standalone Subassembly Prompts command discarded the change, and the subassemblies list behind the dialog did not reflect what had been saved. This issue has been resolved- values apply to the subassembly they were entered against, Save & Close saves the change, and the list refreshes to show it.
  • 'Rebuild Subassembly From Library' was reportedly having an issue wherein it produced an error and left nested subassemblies in a state where their prompts could not be opened, requiring the product to be redrawn to recover. The command now completes without error and nested subassemblies remain usable afterward.
  • Users reported an issue with reverting subassemblies- previously, a subassembly could be reverted when there was no library version to fall back on, which removed it entirely and broke the product. Reversions could then use unrelated library subassemblies that happened to share the same name. This issue has been resolved- revert is unavailable when there is no higher-level version to return to, and a revert resolves to the correct source record.
  • Promoting a row-level subassembly to product level now leaves its nested subassemblies usable, whereas it previously broke them.
  • Part Properties had an issue- previously, where two parents shared the same record it edited the wrong nested subassembly, and a template lookup selected an arbitrary subassembly that happened to share a name. This issue has been resolved- Part Properties edits the nested subassembly you selected, and template lookups match the intended record.
  • 'Save as New' previously checked a new subassembly name only against the current project, so an existing record of the same name in another project went undetected. The name is now checked across other projects as well as the current one.
  • Turned-off subassemblies were reportedly having an issue wherein they lost their grey folder icon once an override had been saved to the product or row level, making it impossible to tell which version was in use in the Part Properties interface. The grey folder icon is now retained after an override is saved.
  • An issue was occurring with subassembly commands- previously, it was possible to open the commands of products belonging to projects that were not currently open, and unique subassemblies would erroneously appear in the wood products list. This issue has been resolved- commands are scoped to the project you are working in, and unique subassemblies are excluded from the wood products list.
  • Previously, after a library update, subassemblies would only update some versions within a project, causing issues when attempting to use them. A library update now updates the version on every subassembly.
  • The Subassemblies dialog had an issue- previously, it opened at an enormous size after being maximized and restored, remembered that size across sessions, and the window reached from the product list could not be resized at all. This issue has been resolved- the dialog opens at a usable size, is resizable from every route, and no longer leaves a stray window behind.
  • The Save to Product window previously had incorrectly formatted text and a prompt that did not make clear what saving to product would do. The window is now formatted correctly and the prompt states what the action will change.

Materials and specification groups

Fixes with issues regarding where material values are stored, and which of them a project or the library ends up using have been applied.

  • Editing a specification group workbook from a project previously wrote those values through to the library. This was the cause of edge band materials changing away from what a project’s specification group defined, of library material thicknesses not sticking, and of template formula materials being overwritten from a project. A workbook edited from a project now affects that project only, and the library retains its own values.
  • Hardware formula materials had an issue- previously, extended data values evaluated by a hardware formula did not reach the work order, and comments and extended data were taken from the library rather than from the project. This issue has been resolved- evaluated extended data reaches the work order, and comments and extended data are taken from the project’s own values.
  • Formula materials now keep their formulas rather than losing them.
  • Usage Chance was reportedly having issues wherein its value was not shown in the sheet size list, the figure displayed was multiplied by a hundred, a typed value was not saved, and the cell appeared empty rather than editable. All four have been corrected- Usage Chance shows its value in the sheet size list, displays the correct figure, saves what you type, and presents an editable control.
  • An issue was reported with copying additional sheet-stock materials- previously, copying them into a project that already had a work order did not create the sheet stock, so the material appeared but could not be nested, and every subsequent copy was affected in the same way. This issue has been resolved- the sheet stock is created on copy and those materials can be nested.
  • Edgeband and hardware material pointers now retain their own selection on each tab, so a selection made from one no longer overwrites the other.
  • Users reported an issue with the user-defined Project Properties tab- previously, choosing a value on it changed the current specification group. This issue has been resolved- choosing a value on that tab leaves the specification group as it is.
  • Trim values were previously converted a second time, so they did not match the values held in the template material file. They are now converted once and match the template material file.
  • Reports were received of an issue with applying a material- previously, the message shown when it failed did not explain what had gone wrong. This issue has been resolved- the message now explains the problem and what to do about it.
  • Apply to All in Workbook Designer was reportedly having an issue wherein formula-driven material checks were applied on the first save only. The checks are now applied on every save.
  • Users reported an intermittent issue with component files- previously, an error was raised when a component file could not be read. This issue has been addressed- the failure is handled rather than surfaced as an error.

Formulas and workbooks

The formula editor, the AI Formula Assistant, and the workbooks behind them have had a number of fixes and overhauls applied to them.

  • The formula editor now opens at a consistent size, including when the AI Formula Assistant panel is open, rather than growing slightly larger each time it was opened and closed and keeping that size across sessions.
  • There was a placement issue with the AI Formula Assistant- previously, it was compressed into the small editor panel rather than given room of its own. This issue has been resolved- the assistant opens beside the dialog in both Edit Material and Edit Sheet Size, and the panel now remembers the width you set it to.
  • Formulas in Edit Sheet Size previously were not shown in red as they are elsewhere in the software, and the evaluation box cut off the evaluated result. Formulas now appear in red and the evaluation box shows the result in full.
  • A reported issue was occurring with Save and Redraw- previously, choosing it left the workbook blank. This issue has been resolved- the workbook retains its contents through a Save and Redraw.
  • The Workbook Designer Save button was reportedly having an issue wherein it did not raise the warning that is shown when closing and saving. The Save button now shows the same warning.
  • There was an issue with leaving Edit Design Data from the product list- previously, Name Manager was left open behind it and then reported that the workbook had been disposed. This issue has been resolved- Name Manager closes with Edit Design Data and the disposal message no longer appears.
  • The global file would sometimes have a null reference error occurring after redrawing. The file now resolves correctly after a redraw, so the error that referenced it no longer occurs.

Nesting and optimization

Multiple fixes were applied resolving issues centered around the issues of Perfect Grain, Adaptive Nesting and True Shape nesting.

  • An issue with nesting strategies has been resolved- previously, when running more than one job with identical settings in the nest, the results would be different due to strategies overwriting each-other’s sheet inventories. That should no longer occur, and the results should now be identical.
    • Strategy selection previously chose the most optimal strategy as progress was reported, using a comparison that could result in two different yields depending on timing, and true-shape scrap placement ran in parallel in every case. Strategy evaluation and scrap placement are now sequenced deterministically, so a repeated run with the same settings and seed reaches the same result.
  • Users reported an issue with Adaptive Nesting- previously, the setting interacted erroneously with the Continuous Optimization option. When Adaptive Nesting was selected with ‘Enable Continuous Optimization’ active, the optimization operation would not run continuously, instead optimizing only until the maximum number of runs was reached. This issue has been resolved- Adaptive Nesting will no longer ignore Continuous Optimization.
  • With Continuous Optimization selected, Adaptive Nesting now holds on the run you chose until you accept it or clear the option, instead of advancing past it and climbing toward the run ceiling.
  • A reported issue was occurring with true-shape nesting- previously, a single part that was too large to fit caused the true-shape results to be dropped from the whole batch. This issue has been resolved- the remaining parts keep their true-shape results.
  • Door hardware was reportedly having an issue wherein hardware such as hinges moved out of position when adaptive or true-shape nesting was enabled. Hardware now stays in position under both nesting modes.
  • There were several issues with Perfect Grain- previously, it did not work on the Microvellum output type, nested perfect grain did not line up, and container and cabinet identifier errors were raised during processing. These issues have been resolved- perfect graining works on the Microvellum output type, nested perfect grain lines up as expected, and the container and cabinet identifier errors no longer occur.
  • Perfect Graining edge alignment previously appeared corrected in nest output while saw and parts-file output were not. Edge alignment now behaves the same across nest, saw and parts-file output.
  • Grain direction had an issue- previously, a grain direction set on a part did not reach the work order, so a panel set to width was treated as length. This issue has been resolved- the grain direction set on the part reaches the work order and is honored there.
  • Scrap now converts to trim at the correct factor, where an incorrect conversion factor was previously applied.
  • Solid modeling product parts were reportedly having an issue wherein parts set to Force Width would not nest unless the legacy optimizer was selected. Those parts now nest without having to switch to the legacy optimizer.

Machining and toolpaths

The issues resolved here centered around problems with dados, multi-pass routing, tabs, borders and drilling. All of the following issues have been resolved:

  • A dado whose thickness has been left blank now places its lead-in on the correct side, removing the double-width nub that was produced at the start of the cut.
  • An issue was occurring with imperial dados- previously, a dado whose thickness fell close to the tool diameter collapsed into a single undersized pass rather than being cut at the designed width. This issue has been resolved- the dado is cut in the correct number of passes at the width it was designed to.
  • Multi-pass dados were reportedly having an issue wherein a dado requiring more than one pass drifted off axis along its length. Multi-pass dados now stay on axis for the full length of the cut.
  • Dados at the end of a part previously extended from the wrong borders. End dados now extend from the correct borders.
  • A reported issue was occurring with dado corner routes- previously, they appeared in a neighboring part’s Face 6 output, both when generating new code and on the initial batch run. This issue has been resolved- corner routes stay within their own part in both cases.
  • Dados now stay within their own half of a split blind cabinet, rather than continuing past the split boundary into the other half and into nesting output.
  • The router lead-in adjustment percentage had an issue- previously, applying it degraded how dados were represented, and dados produced through the Solid Model Analyzer were incorrect. This issue has been resolved- the adjustment no longer affects dado representation, and analyzer-produced dados have been corrected.
  • Deep multi-pass routes were reportedly having an issue wherein each pass added depth, so the route cut progressively into the spoilboard. Multi-pass routes now hold the intended depth and leave the spoilboard intact.
  • Users reported an issue with tabs- previously, tabs between small parts were positioned incorrectly, multi-pass tooling did not work alongside tabs, and the messages raised for multi-pass and tabbing were inconsistent and in one case not raised at all. This issue has been resolved- tab offsets between small parts are correct, multi-pass tooling works together with tabs, and the messages shown are clearer, consistent, and raised when they should be.
  • Border routes previously produced incorrect arcs with irregular-shape border detection enabled, flipped the border where a round cutout sat on the edge of a part, and lost part of the border at a ramp length of zero. Border arcs are now correct with irregular-shape detection on, an edge cutout leaves the border orientation intact, and a ramp length of zero is handled without loss of border.
  • A reported issue was occurring with routes produced by the Solid Model Analyzer- previously, they did not adjust for the tool, corners were not mitered when a rectangle was used as the construction path, and lead-in placement during arc analyzation was incorrect. This issue has been resolved- routes adjust for the tool again, all corners are mitered when a rectangle is used as the construction path, and arc lead-in placement has been corrected.
  • Drilling has been corrected in three places- a single machine token now produces one set of drilling rather than duplicating it on both faces, drawer division drilling honors the top-or-bottom selection without needing a formula filter, and drilling on tenon cutouts is accurate.
  • There was an issue with hardware tokens- previously, they did not ramp as expected, and two pieces of hardware on the same part behaved differently, with one ramping and the other plunging. This issue has been resolved- hardware tokens ramp as expected and behave consistently across a part.
  • The hardware route hole token was reportedly having an issue wherein it did not produce the route it was configured for. The token has been corrected.
  • Rotation had an issue- previously, rotating subassemblies and parts that use an associated polyline gave unpredictable results at some rotation values, which had to be worked around with formulas. This issue has been resolved- rotation produces predictable results at every value, removing the need for workaround formulas.
  • Routes for LED strip lighting previously stopped being produced after an update. LED strip lighting routes work again.
  • There was an issue with tool sizing- previously, a tool sized close to the material thickness added unnecessary passes, which lengthened cut time on parts carrying several dados. This issue has been resolved- the extra passes are no longer added.
  • A pocket route now completes without doubling back on itself at the end of the cut.

CNC output and machines

Multiple issues related to machine-specific output have been resolved. Several corrections here relate to units, where values were being converted twice or not at all.

  • Schelling saw output had an issue- previously, errors were raised and output files were missing, projects converted to metric had only some of their dimensions converted, over-precise values caused an error, and thickness and length values for drawer parts were inflated by a factor of twenty-five. This issue has been resolved- output is produced without error, all dimensions in a converted project are converted consistently, over-precise values are handled, and drawer part values are written at their true size.
  • Schelling output previously raised an error while running in BSB that did not occur in AC. Output is now produced identically on both CAD platforms.
  • Saw output units have been corrected- previously, users had issues with metric headers being applied to operations with imperial machining beneath it. This should no longer occur, as imperial-to-metric conversion has been corrected.
  • Cancelling an operation on a sawing station now removes what it started, rather than leaving partial output files behind.
  • Output file names were reportedly having an issue wherein characters that cannot be used on Windows were carried through depending on where the name originated, leaving archives that would not extract. File names are now cleaned against one consistent character set regardless of origin, so archives extract reliably.
  • Users reported several issues with Gannomat output- previously, fractional dowel diameters could not be written, dowel settings were converted so that they came out twenty-five times too large, and processing a work order whose parts had no horizontal drilling or edge machining produced an error. These issues have been resolved- fractional dowel diameters are written, dowel settings are converted to the correct units, and a work order with no such machining completes cleanly.
  • Machining depths for parts on Biesse machines were previously incorrect. Biesse machining depths have been corrected.
  • Nanxing router output had an issue- previously, routes penetrated into the spoilboard. This issue has been resolved- spoilboard penetration on Nanxing output has been corrected.
  • Ironhorse bank drilling is now produced consistently from one run to the next.
  • An issue was occurring with Morbidelli output- previously, label paths ignored the subfolder setting applied to the program output, so the two landed in different places. This issue has been resolved- label paths follow the same subfolder setting as the program output and both land together.
  • Felder output was reportedly having an issue wherein the default feed rate written to the file was incorrect. The default feed rate on Felder output files has been corrected.
  • Tool names were previously dropped from output, which produced a macro statement format error at the machine. Tool names are now included in generated output and the macro statement error no longer occurs.
  • Generated program file names now match the corresponding label program names, so the two can be matched at the machine.
  • Custom post support has been extended- previously, several machine configurations could not be supported through a custom post. This has been resolved- custom post support has been added for further machine configurations.

Labels and reports

The issues of this section were focused on what appears on printed labels, and how reports are generated.

  • Edge bores on labels previously did not rotate to match the part in every nested orientation. They now rotate with the part in all orientations.
  • Users reported an issue with the edgeband marker- previously, it did not follow the part’s rotation, as the base point marker already did. This issue has been resolved- the edgeband marker rotates with the part.
  • Edgebanding labels were reportedly having issues wherein a stray line was drawn on the label and edge band lines were drawn at the wrong scale. The stray line has been removed and edge band lines are drawn at the correct scale.
  • Printed labels had a limitation- previously, the R-line was always included and could not be taken off the label. This has been resolved- the R-line can now be removed from printed labels.
  • Labels are now positioned consistently whether a batch is processed through the Processing Center or code is generated afresh, and label information reflects the current version of the part rather than an earlier one.
  • A reported issue was occurring with automatic labels- previously, they were not produced. This issue has been resolved- automatic labels are produced as expected.
  • Label outlines for a part with a quantity greater than one previously stacked on the first placement rather than being drawn for each, which was most visible on SCM Maestro output. An outline is now drawn for every placement.
  • An issue was occurring with the edging image- previously, it was drawn at the wrong angle and size for true-shape parts. This issue has been resolved- the edging image is drawn at the correct angle and size.
  • Pictures in reports were reportedly having an issue wherein they were scaled incorrectly on high-resolution and scaled displays. Report pictures now scale correctly at any display scaling.
  • An issue was reported with optimization reports- previously, nesting and sawing optimization reports omitted the material storage location on scrap rows, and report data drawn from more than one source replaced rather than combined. This issue has been resolved- the storage location is shown on scrap rows and multi-source data is combined.
  • The saw optimization report now renders with its intended font, which previously failed to load.

Processing Center

Issues specifically focused on batches and production output were resolved. These include:

  • The Processing Center was reportedly having an issue wherein it froze while a nest or point-to-point station was running, so batches were not completed and no composite was produced. This has since been corrected- the Processing Center stays responsive, batches complete, the composite is produced, and you are notified when the run finishes. This applies to the standalone Processing Center as well.
  • Batch naming had an issue- previously, creating new code from the nest editing tools locked the batch name, and entering a batch name could lock up the application. This issue has been resolved- the batch name stays editable and naming behaves correctly.
  • Nests now keep their material association after new code is generated, including where previous batches have not been deleted.
  • An issue was reported with processing- previously, incorrect machining was produced after a batch had been processed. This issue has been resolved- the incorrect machining is no longer produced.
  • Running a batch in BSB 2026 would sometimes crash the process. Batches should now run to completion in BSB 2026 without issue.

Library Update, Import and Export

Multiple fixes were applied to issues reportedly occurring involving maintaining one’s library, updating, and moving data in and out of the software.

  • A reported issue was occurring with library updates- previously, an update that failed to download or install gave no explanation, and a small number of subassemblies were left on the previous version with no error and no log entry. A new pop-up screen has been applied- any failed update now explains exactly what went wrong, and every subassembly receives its updated version.
  • XML import and export were reportedly having gaps wherein products brought in through an import did not carry their category, so reports built on that information did not work for imported products. The gaps in both import and export have been closed, and an imported product’s category is resolved from the database rather than requiring the tag in the file.
  • Users previously had issues with importing ClosetPro assets. The import produced errors that required the software to be restarted repeatedly throughout the day. This issue should no longer occur, and ClosetPro assets import without error.
  • Plugin fields added to the data model are now exposed through the plugin interface.
  • An issue with hardware name parameters was occurring wherein corrections applied to parameters would not take effect until the product had been removed from the project and added again. This should no longer be the case- any corrections applied correction should take effect immediately.
  • A reported issue was occurring with metric libraries- previously, a workbook failure affected libraries held in metric. This issue has been resolved- the workbook failure has been corrected.
  • Working with specification groups repeatedly previously raised a random components error. The error no longer occurs.

Speed and responsiveness

Several issues occurring with running large databases or working from a network share have been resolved.

  • Reports now load only the projects they need rather than every project in the database, which makes a substantial difference where thousands of projects exist and report groups are used; reports in the Foundation Library, including Work Order Summary, open and print considerably faster as a result.
  • Reports were received of a performance issue with working from a network share- opening the projects list stalled for minutes while dates were read individually from the share, closing a settings window re-read every project even when nothing had changed, checking a project name re-read the whole share, and opening the category manager scanned every room drawing before it appeared. This issue has been resolved- each of those operations now reads only what it needs, and all four open without the stall.
  • When working within large databases, broad queries would cause deadlocks and slowdowns on busy systems. This issue has been resolved- queries have been narrowed to reduce the deadlocks and slowdowns seen on large, busy databases.
  • Application settings were read far more often than necessary by the software, and a settings value was read back rather than written. This issue has been resolved- settings are read less often and values are written correctly.

Licensing

A handful of issues were resolved, centered around behavior when the license server cannot be reached, and consistency between the AutoCAD and BricsCAD versions of Microvellum.

  • Offline warnings previously did not escalate while you remained offline and appeared only once the connection had been restored, which consumed the grace period without notice, and choosing to save from a warning did not save the work. Warnings now escalate correctly while you are offline so the full grace period is available to you, and choosing to save from a warning saves your work.
  • Users reported an issue with the no-seats-available message- previously, the link to the portal did not function, the message was unreadable in dark mode, and the wording differed between Microvellum AC and BSB versions. This issue has been resolved- the portal link works, the message is readable in dark mode, and it reads the same in both versions of Microvellum.
  • Server outage messages were reportedly having an issue wherein the wording differed between the two versions of Microvellum. The wording is now identical across both.
  • License status presentation has been refined further, following the server outage that prompted this work, so the dialog explains the situation and the options available rather than reporting a bare failure.

AutoCAD and BricsCAD parity

Code that was previously specific to one CAD platform has been unified, so both platforms behave the same way.

  • Individual line extrusion previously was not detected in BricsCAD, where the geometry is reported differently than in AutoCAD. This issue has been resolved- line extrusion is detected on both platforms.
  • Block name retrieval previously, anonymous and dynamic block names were not returned reliably in BricsCAD. This issue has been resolved- block name retrieval has been reworked and returns the same names on both platforms.
  • Commands that prompt for a distance previously behaved differently in each platform. This issue has been resolved- the event has been replaced so both platforms respond identically.
  • ‘Place Product On Wall’ had an issue in BSB, wherein it did not work when used in an isometric view. The command now works in isometric views on both platforms.
  • Hardware machine tokens now apply in BSB without raising an error.

Interface and dark mode

Numerous changes were applied to the interface of the software, such as cell color coding, text contrast, and the expansion of dark mode to multiple interfaces it was not previously applied to.

  • Dark mode had gaps in application- previously, several interfaces were unusable or unreadable against the dark background. This issue has been resolved- dark mode now covers:
    • The Select Primary Toolfile menu.
    • Part Properties icons and its Cancel Formula button
    • Hardware machine tokens.
    • The subassembly menu and its level colors.
    • The Map Parts subassemblies icon.
    • Nest composite annotation icons.
    • The Solid Model Analyzer palette outline.
    • Unit selection.
    • Saw custom settings.
    • The processing results message.
    • The Processing Center grid arrow and batch increment button.
    • The license polling message.
    • The plugin tab in Project Properties.
    • Formula evaluation highlighting.
    • The Stored Formulas dialog.
    • The compiled post output window.
    • Splitters.
    • The part rotate interface.
    • The plugin interfaces.
  • Dark mode previously painted over fixed cells, so indicators such as subassembly level colors did not show, and those colors bled outside their own row into the row separator. Color-coded cells now display their proper colors and stay within their row when dark mode is applied.
  • There was an issue with text contrast- previously, text in several areas was illegible against the dark background. This issue has been resolved- illegible text has been corrected throughout the software.
  • The duplicate paint handler that redrew the prompts control twice has been removed.
  • Reports were received of an issue with window placement- previously, windows did not reopen where they were left, with the project tree and specification group windows always opening on the primary monitor, resizable windows did not remember their size, and a window that was un-maximized returned to its default size rather than the size the user had set. This issue has been resolved- windows reopen on the monitor and at the position where you left them, resizable windows remember their size, and an un-maximized window returns to the size you set.
  • Project windows were reportedly having an issue wherein they flickered and glitched while opening, and creating projects and rooms produced visual artefacts. Windows now open cleanly and the artefacts no longer appear.
  • Text in the Save Product to Library window and in the product selection grid was previously cut off, including the descenders on lowercase letters. Text is now displayed in full in both places.
  • Keyboard navigation had an issue- previously, tab order did not follow the visual layout in the drawer front calculator and elsewhere, and using the arrow keys on a tree view produced an error. This issue has been resolved- tab order follows the layout and arrow keys navigate a tree view without error.
  • The drawer front calculator has been corrected, and now returns the correct result for the configurations that previously failed.
  • An issue was reported with permission notices- previously, they appeared when simply opening a list, where no permission was being exercised. This issue has been resolved- the notices appear only when they apply.
  • The About window was reportedly having a display issue wherein its contents were not rendered correctly. The display problems have been corrected.

Feature usage tracking

  • Anonymous feature-usage tracking has been added to this build so that development effort can be directed toward the capabilities users rely on. Named events are recorded when Solid Model Analyzer or Solid Modeling Tools is opened, an analyzed product is saved, legacy nest or legacy saw is enabled, a work order is created, and the Company Setup and Microvellum Settings screens are opened. The events record which feature was used and nothing about the contents of your projects; internal usage is filtered out automatically, and tracking has no effect on how the software behaves.

Installation and updates

  • An issue with the file layout required by AutoCAD 2026 was resolved. When opening Microvellum AC on AutoCAD 2026 version 1.2 or newer, there was an issue causing a crash at startup. This issue has been resolved- installing or updating now applies the required file layout, and the software starts normally after an update.
  • Additionally, obsolete files are removed during an update rather than left behind.
