The Solid Model Analyzer allows you to select 3D solids and create a manufacturable product. It works very similarly to the save options when using the product builders. However, it does imply that you must use the product builders to make solid models. Solids can be created using 3D AutoCAD commands. Solids can also be imported from other design programs (file formats DWG, SAT, etc.). Imported files must contain solids. Mesh objects are not compatible.
When using the Solid Model Analyzer, it is recommended to create basic smart layers (Part Name, Part Color, and Part Material – all other parameters can be blank). This will cause the analysis to bring in the correct name and material for the parts. Without simple, smart layers assigned to the solids, the parts will be added to the list as Part 1, Part 2, etc. Material selections will only recognize material thicknesses and allow you to select one material for each different thickness found. The use of smart layers will increase the efficiency and accuracy of the analysis.
Solid Model Analyzer can be used to save products made with the builders. Often, it is quicker to use the builders to get the product mostly complete, then using AutoCAD solid commands and objects, put the finishing touches on the product. This could save time if the product were to contain a lot of supplemental parts. Instead of adding each part as a supplemental part, they will all be included when selected for analyzation using the Solid Model Analyzer.
