Transitioning from Toolbox OEM to BSB

Transitioning from Toolbox OEM to BSB

The process for transitioning your licenses from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB is relatively simple, though once it is fully committed to, it will not be able to be undone. This article will explain the process for transitioning, along with several tips and suggestions from Microvellum on the topic of transitioning between OEM and BSB.

Prior to Transitioning

It is required that clients who wish to convert their license first download a trial version of Toolbox BSB and use the software firsthand before deciding on transitioning. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the interface and environment of BricsCAD, evaluate how closely the software fits the workflow of your business, and test whether transitioning would benefit your business. A 45-day trial is available for download via the Microvellum Portal.

Warning
Toolbox BSB is not compatible with Windows Remote Desktop Service (RDS) environments. As such, if you happen to be using an RDS environment in your business, it is not recommended to attempt to install Toolbox BSB for use within it. This compatibility limitation does not apply to standard remote desktop connections made directly to a workstation.

Data

All existing data that exists in your OEM or AC Toolbox database is capable of being opened in BSB without requiring any external changes or manual adjustments. However, if you are using Toolbox OEM and intend to continue using Toolbox OEM in the future, it is recommended to back up your installation and update files. After Toolbox BSB is publicly released, Microvellum will not be capable of distributing installation files or subsequent licenses for Toolbox OEM. As such, if you opt to remain on Toolbox OEM, Microvellum will be unable to provide your software with updates, fixes, or restorations, if your software suffers a data-compromising issue.

Trial Process

Once the needed precautions with your existing data are complete, open the Microvellum Portal and begin your free trial of Toolbox BSB. The procedure works as follows:
  1. Access the Trial:
    1. Go to the Licenses section of the Software Management page in the Microvellum Portal.
    2. You’ll notice a trial license of Toolbox BSB has been created for you, appearing on the last row on the Software Management page.
    3. Under the Latest Full Install column for Microvellum Toolbox BSB Trial, click Create Trial.
  2. Starting Your Trial:
    1. A modal window will appear with instructions. Read them carefully.
    2. Click Cancel if you wish to exit without starting your trial.
    3. Click Create Trial to initiate your 45-day free trial.
    4. This trial mirrors your current OEM license setup, including the number of seats and modules.
  3. What Happens Next:
    1. A support case is automatically created, containing instructions for installation, activation, and training. This case will be marked Closed but should still be reviewed.
    2. Your trial will appear in the Licenses list on the Software Management page.
    3. The official Toolbox BSB license will be marked as Pending Conversion, and the “Start Trial” button will change to Convert My Licenses.
  4. Trial Expiration and Extension:
    1. The trial expires 45 days from creation.
    2. You can extend it once for an additional 45 days after expiration by clicking the Extend Trial button.
    3. If the trial expires without conversion, a follow-up support case will be created and marked Open, inviting you to share your status and get help transitioning.
  5. Download and Install Toolbox BSB:
    1. In the Latest Full Install column, select the desired installer from the dropdown.
    2. Click the Download button to start.
    3. After download, run the Microvellum Toolbox BSB Installation file and follow the installation steps.
    4. When prompted, enter the License ID and Password found in the Trial license entry in your Portal.

Notes
Note: Starting with a trial gives you up to 90 days (45 days + one extension) to prepare your team without disrupting your current production in Toolbox OEM. You may convert at any time during the trial. However, we recommend allowing enough time to train your team and become familiar with the BricsCAD-based environment before fully transitioning.

Pricing

Transitioning from OEM to BSB does not require any direct payment, so long as the transition occurs within the period of July 21st 2025 to January 27th 2027. Users who transition from OEM to BSB will be converted to a new subscription-based pricing model for their software. All existing software licenses, modules, or library data will be included in this subscription. Any existing annual User License Maintenance (ULM) or OEM maintenance fees that have been paid will be applied to your new BSB subscription.

Migrating Configurations

You can migrate the configurations you had in Toolbox OEM into Toolbox BSB through the standard process using Toolbox’s built-in application settings. For more information on the process of migrating your configurations, visit this article.

The process of transitioning requires one to log into the Microvellum Portal. 2. You do not need to download the installer again if Toolbox BSB is already installed.
  4. Check for Software Updates:
    1. In the Latest Update column, check the dropdown for any new build numbers.
    2. If a newer build is available, download and install it.
    3. To verify your current build, go to Help > About in Toolbox.
  5. Activate Your Official License:
