Tutorial: Create a New Spec Group

Tutorial: Create a New Spec Group

This brief article provides the steps necessary to create a new spec group within the Project Specification Groups interface.

  1. With Toolbox open, click "Toolbox Setup > Project Specification Groups."
  2. Select a spec group.
  3. Click the "Copy Spec Group" button.
  4. Copy Specification Group Components (PL1 Material Imperial)
  5. Name the new spec group and enter the name for any new cut part and edgeband files. Click the checkbox for "Launch Find and Replace."

  6. The Find and Replace here does not affect the project level materials. It is similar to using the Find and Replace in a material file. It goes into the selected category for the factory level materials (inventory), searches for and replaces the keywords as specified. This command modifies the name of a material, or multiple materials, thus allowing you to minimize the number of different uniquely named inventory materials. With a generic list of materials, you can use the Find and Replace command to modify the generic name of the material to be a project-specific material.

Select any additional options for other files to copy to the new spec group, or select no additional options.

    Copy Specification Group Components (PL5)
  7. The program displays the "Find and Replace" box to replace specified text within the copied files. For example, you may want to replace "PL1" with "PL5" to reflect a different color.
  8. Find and Replace
  9. Confirm that the new spec group has been added to the left side Spec Group WIndow, along with the new PL5 components to the spec group  cut parts
  10. Spec Groups (Cut Parts)
  11. Confirm that the new spec group has been added to the left side Spec Group Window, along with the new PL5 components to the spec group  edgeband parts
  12. Spec Group (Edgeband Parts)
  13. Close the Specification Group SEtup box, and you're ready to go with your new project spec group.

A short video that demonstrates these steps is attached to this article.
