Solid Modeling Tools - How to Restore Products from an Existing Drawing (Tutorial 2: Part 1)
This is the second in a series of articles containing tutorials designed to acquaint you with the basic steps in using the Microvellum Solid Modeling Tools. These tools are also known as SMT, which is an acronym of the full name.
The steps contained in this tutorial start where tutorial #1 left off. Here are the subjects we will include in this tutorial:
-
How to restore products from an existing drawing.
-
How to modify the active 2D section drawing to modify the 3D product.
-
How to modify the construction path to change the shape of your 3D product in plan view.
-
How to work with the tools in the product tree structure.
At the end of this tutorial, we will give you a link to the next tutorial in the series.
How to Restore Products From an Existing Drawing
All of the information that Microvellum needs to know about your custom product is contained in the 3D model of the product. This includes the part dimensions, part material, machining, etc. As long as you saved the drawing with the correct information before you quit Toolbox, you will be able to open Toolbox and recreate the SMT product structure created in the original work session.
- Open Toolbox, open the existing project from tutorial #1 in this series and open the room in that project that contains your custom 3D product.
- Click the palette bar "Solid Modeling" to launch the solid modeling tools. Dock the SMT palette to the right side of the drawing area. Click the Tree View tab.
- Right-click to access the context menu and click "Restore Multiple Products From Drawing…"
Fig. 1
- Window all of the 3D objects contained in your custom product so far. When it has restored all the objects in the 3D, the Tree View tab will no longer be blank – it will now contain a row for each entity in the product.
