Adding Alternating Rows to Lists in Report Designer

Adding Alternating Rows to Lists in Report Designer

The articles in this section of the Knowledge Base involve working with Lists for display in your reports. To learn more about Lists and how to access the Report Designer, see Creating Lists in Report Designer. This article provides information on highlighting alternating rows to improve the appearance of your reports.

Report Designer offers two ways to alternate row colors in a table:

  1. Highlight Conditions
  2. Data Band Styles

Using Highlight Conditions

Open an existing report that has a list in which you wish to alternate row colors.

In Figure 01, all rows have the same background color. With the Data band selected, double-click the Conditions property to open the Conditions Editor.

From the Conditions Editor, select Add Condition > Highlight Condition.

To alternate row colors, add an expression that sets the condition so that every ODD row has the properties applied. Enter the following expression:

(Line And 1) = 1

Choose the Properties you wish to be applied to every odd row. Render the report, and it should look something like Figure 05.

Using Data Band Styles

The second method of alternating row colors is to utilize the Odd Style and Even Style properties. This method allows you to create your own styles and choose which ones are applied to which rows, odd or even.

Styles allow for additional customization of rows. With one Style applied to odd rows, and a different Style applied to an even row, the report looks something like the following:
