Understanding Empty Data Bands in Report Designer

The articles in this section of the Knowledge Base involve working with Empty Data bands for display in your reports. To access the Report Designer, select Toolbox Setup > Design Reports > Design (Report Type) Report. Select New Report to design a report from scratch or New Report from Existing. Select Designer to open Report Designer.

From this screen, add an Empty Data band component to your report, or edit an existing Empty Data Band component.

The Empty Data band fills any free space left at the bottom of the report with empty data rows that match the Data Band rows. Figure 02 shows a report without an Empty Data band.

Adding an Empty Data band to the end of this report changes the look by continuing the appearance of the Data bands down the page.

Example

Create a new report, or edit an existing report, and add borders around the text items on the Data band. Add an Empty Data band after the Data band.

In the case that there is more than one Data band in your report, place the Empty Data band after the LAST Data band, and before any Footer bands. To print Footer bands at the bottom of the page, set the Print At Bottom property of each Footer band to true.

Next, add text components to the Empty Data band that match those found in the Data band. Format the Empty Data Band to match the Data bands. At this point, you should have something that looks like Figure 03.

Run the report, and there will no longer be empty space after the last populated Data cells.
