- If you’re not a Portal Admin, you’ll need to contact someone who is.
- Admins will be guided through an agreement form and asked to review the updated EULA.
- Once the EULA is accepted, the license becomes active.

- If I already own a BricsCAD license, is there an installation of Toolbox available outside of the BSB?
- Currently, installing Toolbox alongside an existing BricsCAD installation—purchased directly from Bricsys—is not supported. This integration is planned for a future release.
- Is BricsCAD considered a lower-tier CAD platform compared to other CAD software?
- Not at all. BricsCAD is a powerful, professional-grade CAD platform that fully supports the DWG file format and delivers a robust environment for both 2D drafting and 3D modeling. It includes many of the same features found in leading CAD solutions, along with unique tools and added flexibility that make it a strong, future-ready alternative.
Licensing & Pricing
- Are there costs associated with converting to Toolbox BSB?
- There are no out-of-pocket costs to convert your existing Toolbox OEM licenses to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD), provided you complete the conversion within the next 18 months. Your current annual User License Maintenance (ULM) and OEM maintenance fees—based on your existing payment cycle—will be applied toward your Toolbox BSB subscription, making the conversion cost-neutral for your existing licenses. If you add new users or increase your license count, additional charges will apply. After the 18-month window, this cost-neutral conversion offer may no longer be available, and price increases may apply when converting to Toolbox BSB.
- If I convert to Toolbox BSB, will I also transition to a subscription pricing model?
- When converting to Toolbox BSB, any software modules and licenses you previously purchased under a perpetual model will remain owned by you. The only component that will transition to a subscription is the CAD platform—referred to as the Toolbox BSB license—which will be provided at no additional cost.
- Alternatively, you may choose to convert to Toolbox AC or Toolbox BC (available in 2026) instead of Toolbox BSB. This option allows you to retain your perpetual license status, but you will be responsible for separately purchasing your own CAD platform through Autodesk or Bricsys (for BricsCAD). Please note: If you choose either Toolbox AC or Toolbox BC, your access to Toolbox OEM will be suspended. All rights to your perpetually licensed modules will then be associated exclusively with the new platform you’ve selected.
- How do I obtain a Toolbox BSB license?
- You can obtain a 45-day trial or official Toolbox BSB license directly from the Microvellum Portal under the Account Management section.
- Step 1: Activate a 45-day trial to evaluate the BricsCAD platform. You'll receive instructions for downloading, installing, and accessing video-based training resources.
- Step 2: Convert your Toolbox OEM licenses. Review and accept the conversion terms, then download and activate your software. The process is streamlined and user-friendly, allowing you to get up and running quickly and efficiently.
- Are there trial versions of Toolbox BSB available?
- If you would like to begin exploring Toolbox BSB, a 45-day trial version of the software will be available within the Software Management area of the Microvellum Portal for all existing Toolbox OEM users on July 21st.
- The total allowed seats provided within the trial license should align with your total Toolbox OEM seats. This will ensure all current users will be able to explore the Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) environment. To activate this trial, you must be a Portal Admin. If you currently use Toolbox AC and would like to evaluate Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD), you may request a trial from your Account Manager.
- Do I have to convert to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
- No, you are not required to convert to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD). However, after July 20, 2025, Toolbox OEM will no longer receive updates, and installation files will no longer be available through the Microvellum Portal or from our team
- While your existing installation will continue to function as it always has, choosing not to convert comes with some risks:
- If you lose access to your current installation files, reinstalling may become difficult or impossible.

- Does Toolbox BSB include access to BricsCAD Shape?
- No, Toolbox BSB does not provide access to BricsCAD Shape. However, Shape is a free product offered by Bricsys and can be downloaded separately from their website.
Training & Support
- Does Microvellum offer any services to assist with the transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB? (BricsCAD)
- To support your transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD), we've curated over 7 hours of video content to guide you through a successful migration to the BricsCAD platform and made it available within the INNERGY PeAk LMS platform. - Does Microvellum provide BricsCAD support?

- Yes, Toolbox OEM and Toolbox BSB can be installed side-by-side on the same computer during your conversion. This allows you to evaluate Toolbox BSB using a trial license while maintaining access to your existing OEM version.
- While both versions can coexist, Microvellum recommends fully transitioning to either Toolbox AC or Toolbox BSB, as Toolbox OEM will no longer be supported after July 20, 2025 and it’s critical that all workstations accessing shared data use the same Microvellum version.
- What happens to my existing Toolbox OEM licenses after I transition to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
- Once you complete your official transition from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB, your Toolbox OEM licenses will remain active indefinitely.

Toolbox BSB is designed to be compatible with your current project data and workflow, allowing you to transition seamlessly without needing to recreate or convert your work.

- Are there keyboard shortcut differences or UI layout changes I should expect in BricsCAD?

Toolbox BSB is not compatible with Windows Remote Desktop Service (RDS) environments. As such, if you happen to be using an RDS environment in your business, it is not recommended to attempt to install Toolbox BSB for use within it. This compatibility limitation does not apply to standard remote desktop connections made directly to a workstation.
- Does Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) support the same imports/exports as Toolbox OEM?
- Not entirely. Toolbox BSB does not support all the same import/export formats as Toolbox OEM by default. On the other hand there are additional formats that Brics supports such as Sketchup. However, Bricsys offers an optional add-on called Communicator for BricsCAD, which extends file interoperability to include formats like STEP, IGES, and other 3D file types, bringing it closer to existing capabilities. - Currently, the Communicator add-on is not supported for use with Toolbox BSB, but compatibility is planned for a future release. Many of these other applications also allow export in a .dwg format which can be opened in Brics.
Import & Export Capabilities
- How often is BricsCAD updated, and does that impact Microvellum stability?
- BricsCAD receives multiple updates throughout the year, including performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features. So far, in 2025, there have been 7 releases of BricsCAD. These updates do not impact the stability of Microvellum software—supported versions are thoroughly tested to ensure reliable, consistent performance with each release.
- Will Toolbox BSB get BricsCAD updates as soon as Bricsys releases them?
- Not right away. Since Toolbox is bundled with BricsCAD, we take a little extra time to test updates we receive and make sure everything works smoothly together. That means you might see a slight delay between when Bricsys releases an update and when it’s available through Toolbox BSB, but it’s all about making sure you have a stable, reliable experience.
- Does Model Documentation (VIEWBASE) work in BricsCAD?
- Yes, BricsCAD supports the VIEWBASE command and offers the same model documentation capabilities as you’re used to. The primary differences are in the interface, context menus, prompts, and UI behaviors may vary slightly. However, the core functionality for creating base views, projected views, sections, and details from 3D models is present. Users may need to adapt their workflow slightly to accommodate these UI differences, but BricsCAD fully supports the same detailing tools.
- Are the visual styles and shading options in BricsCAD comparable to those in my existing CAD software?
- Yes, BricsCAD offers similar view and shading styles to existing styles and options, including 2D wireframe, 3D wireframe, hidden, shaded, shaded with edges, realistic, and X-ray. Users have reported better performance with some of these additional visual styles as well.

Both platforms use the same native DWG file format, which means you can open, edit, and save drawings between them without conversion or loss of data. This ensures seamless collaboration and easy file sharing, regardless of whether a project was started in other CAD software or BricsCAD.
- How often is Microvellum’s QA team testing compatibility with BricsCAD?

- I just bought Toolbox OEM. Does this mean my investment is obsolete?
- No, your investment is not obsolete. You can continue using Toolbox OEM, and it will remain functional. You’ll also receive updates through July 20, 2025. Microvellum is transitioning to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) moving forward. When you're ready, you’ll have the option to convert to Toolbox BSB. A prorated subscription will be provided based on the time left on your current maintenance agreement, so you’re not losing value. In the meantime, we recommend activating the 45-day Toolbox BSB trial and reviewing the available training to prepare for the transition if or when you choose to make it.
- I use Toolbox AC, will I be impacted by the release of Toolbox BSB?
- If you're using Toolbox AC, you will not be impacted by the release of Toolbox BSB. There's no need to convert your license; Toolbox AC will continue to be supported and function as usual. Toolbox BSB is simply an alternative integration option for BricsCAD.
- Can I convert my Toolbox AC licenses to Toolbox BSB licenses?
- Yes, you can convert your Toolbox AC licenses to Toolbox BSB licenses if you choose to. This would involve switching to the version of Toolbox that includes BricsCAD instead of relying on a separate CAD license. - We understand this change may feel somewhat abrupt. We carefully considered the timing of this announcement to strike a balance between open communication and the work required to ensure a smooth transition. We held off on announcing the end of Toolbox OEM updates and the move to BricsCAD until everything was ready, such as the release date, transition plans, conversion tools, and support resources, so we could give you clear answers from the start.
- The July 21st date was tied to a release plan target already in motion. As features, tools, and support came together, the window for communication narrowed. We waited until we could provide complete information, but we recognize that made the notice feel shorter than ideal. Although additional updates to Toolbox OEM will not be released after July 21, your existing installations will continue to function as they do today and beyond, allowing you to continue working without disruption.
