FAQ: Toolbox BSB Compatibility & Configuration
Compatibility & Configuration
- Will all my existing Microvellum projects created in Toolbox OEM work in Toolbox BSB?
- Yes, all of your existing Microvellum projects created in Toolbox OEM will work in Toolbox BSB. This includes your projects, library data, databases, and other configuration files; everything functions as expected with no changes required.
- Does switching to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) require reconfiguring my Microvellum environment or templates?
- No, switching to BricsCAD does not require reconfiguring your Microvellum environment or templates. Your existing setup, including templates, configuration settings, and access to project data, will continue to work as it always has.
- Are there any CAD features that are unavailable or behave differently in Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) when using Microvellum?
- Yes, while the core functionality of Microvellum Toolbox remains the same across platforms, there are a few platform-specific features that may be unavailable or behave differently in Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD). These differences are minor and do not affect Microvellum workflows. For most users, the transition is smooth and requires no changes to their workflow. Documentation is available on the Microvellum Community that outlines features that may function differently in BricsCAD.
- Can I migrate my CAD standards, layers, and blocks from Toolbox OEM to Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD)?
- Yes, you can migrate your CAD standards, layers, blocks, and other custom content from Toolbox OEM to BricsCAD. Since both platforms use the DWG file format, most of your templates, layer setups, block libraries, linetypes, and dimension styles are fully compatible and typically require no conversion, helping you maintain consistency with minimal setup.
- Are all Microvellum tokens and machining tools fully functional in the BricsCAD environment?
- Yes, all Microvellum tokens and machining tools are fully functional in the Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) environment. The integration ensures that engineering, machining, and production workflows perform just as they do in Toolbox OEM. You can continue your work seamlessly without compromising functionality.
- Can I customize BricsCAD’s interface to match my existing workspace?
- Yes, you can customize BricsCAD’s interface to closely match your existing workspace. BricsCAD supports full workspace customization through its CUI (Customize User Interface) system. Even better, you can import your existing CUI files directly into BricsCAD, allowing you to migrate your toolbars, menus, keyboard shortcuts, and workspace layouts with minimal effort. This makes it easy to recreate a familiar environment and helps reduce the learning curve for teams transitioning to BricsCAD.
- Will Microvellum continue to support Toolbox OEM long term, or is Toolbox BSB (BricsCAD) replacing Toolbox OEM?
- While Microvellum will continue to support Toolbox AC, our development for Toolbox OEM will end on July 20, 2025. On that date, updates and access to full version installations of Toolbox OEM will no longer be accessible through the Microvellum Portal and will no longer be available for distribution.
- Will my Toolbox OEM dynamic blocks be compatible with Toolbox BSB and BricsCAD?
- Yes, with some important considerations. BricsCAD supports the DWG file format, so your existing dynamic blocks from Toolbox OEM, can be used in BricsCAD without needing conversion. However, if you modify dynamic blocks within BricsCAD, those changes may not be fully compatible when the drawing is opened again in your existing CAD software. This is due to differences in how the two platforms handle block definitions and edits.
- To ensure cross-platform consistency:
- Use blocks created in Toolbox OEM as-is within BricsCAD whenever possible.
- Avoid modifying dynamic blocks in BricsCAD if you intend to use those drawings in other CAD software later.
