Microvellum Release Notes: Year of 2026

This document will catalog all releases for Microvellum software builds that are released in the year 2026. This currently encompasses builds 25.2.0114.641 to 25.1.0317.641.

Microvelllum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0317.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0317.641

Product Prompts UI Overhaul

The Microvellum Product Prompts interface has been redesigned to improve efficiency and usability, giving users greater control over multiple features of their products. All existing functionalities of the interface remain intact, and a handful of new changes have been added:
  1. Changes can now be saved without closing the UI. Additionally, a checkbox (“Redraw Product”) has been added to allow one to control whether the product should be redrawn when its prompts have been altered and saved.
  2. Prompt tabs now stack vertically rather than horizontally in the interface, eliminating the need to use directional arrows to navigate to the tabs of the interface.
  3. The Product Details section (item number, quantity, angle, comments, etc.) has been relocated to a far more visible location on the lefthand side of the interface.
  4. There is an additional Prompt Help Text box, which retains the Help Text of the last option hovered over in the interface, allowing users to copy and paste descriptions and tool tips.
  5. There is now a setting under Microvellum Settings > Options > General called Product Prompts, which controls the width of Columns 1 and 2.

Work Order Creation UI Overhaul

The Work Order creation interface has been given an overhaul to improve usability and enhance visual cohesion. All existing functionality of the interface remains intact, with nearly all changes having been made to feature location.
  1. Buttons within the interface which open sub-menus (such as Configure Name) have been relocated to the upper right-hand side of the UI to ensure they are grouped in a single location.
  2. The Parts Group and Default Status dropdown menus have been relocated to the center righthand side of the UI for easy and quick access to either option.
  3. A new Comments field has been added to the interface (having been removed from the Properties Interface) to allow for a much faster, easier experience, adding comments to work orders. The comments entered in this field are saved upon work order creation and can be updated if the work order is modified (existing work order comments will appear in this interface as well).

  4. Additionally, the comment field has been modified to warn users if they exceed the 255-character limit for work order comments, with work orders not being able to process until the character count is reduced, ensuring that no comments are altered or entered incorrectly, as previously, comments would simply cut off after meeting the character limit.
  5. The Work Order Name and Select Recent Name fields have been moved to the top left-hand side of the interface.
  6. All checkbox creation options and Microvellum Server checkbox options have been set in the center of the interface, for easy access.

Use Onion Skin 900 Tools

  1. Previously, when using 900-series tools (multiple tools or multi-pass tools), the software was unable to support the use of the Leave Onion Skin option within Small Part Handling (leaving a thin layer of material from the first cut of a double pass for the second cut to remove). This has changed in this update, with a new checkbox, “Use Onion Skin” being added to Toolfiles when selecting a 900-series tool. This new checkbox will not function unless the “Leave Onion Skin” option in the Small Parts Handling section of the Processing Station is enabled simultaneously. When a 900-series tool is used as the Nest Border Tool and if both checkboxes are enabled, the final pass of a tool will leave the specified onion skin thickness rather than machine to full depth.

SQL Express 2025

  1. Users working on a server configuration reported issues with errors occurring when attempting to run their software. Specifically, SQL Server Express 2025 would have an issue with attempting to load configurations, with users who attempted to do so experiencing a null data error. This noticeably only occurred when using the Express edition of SQL Server 2025. This issue has been resolved- utilizing SQL Server Express 2025 should no longer cause any errors within the software.

Work Order Comments Filter

  1.  When searching through large work order databases, it can sometimes be difficult to navigate or locate specific information due to the presence of many comments within multiple work orders.  To resolve this issue, a new filtering feature has been added to the Work Order Selection interface when modifying an existing work order. This checkbox, “Search Comments”, places a filtering for specific text entered in the Search Bar, allowing users to search for specific words or characters within comments of their work orders, to better locate specific work orders within one’s database.

Work Order Permissions Modification For Label Only Access

  1. A new setting has been added to the Employee Permissions interface, to allow for better control over which employees can process work orders, load parts, or manage scrap. The “Work Order Processing” permission has been added to the Employee Permissions interface under the Work Order section. If this permission is left disabled, the employee in question will only be able to print labels within the Processing Center.
  2. Additionally, the “Access Production” setting within the Module Access section has been renamed and relocated. This checkbox allows the employee in question to log into and utilize the functions of Microvellum Production and the Processing Center as a whole. The setting has been renamed to “Access Work Order” and moved to the Work Order section of the Employee Permissions interface.
  3. Both changes have been applied to the standalone Processing Center application, as well as Microvellum AC and BSB.

Block Nesting Improvement

  1. The efficiency of block nesting with Microvellum’s optimizer has been improved. Previously, it was reported that the current optimizer was less effective at calculating material sheet stacks during block nesting optimization than the legacy optimizer. To address this issue, the maximum quantity of sheets per stack has been increased within the coding, and a new slider has been added to the Nest Processing Station’s optimization section: “Sheet Quantity Preference”. This slider functions similarly to the “Stacked Material Preference” slider in the Saw Processing Station but applied to block nesting specifically to allow for general control over whether the optimizer prioritizes yield or quantity of stacked sheets during the operation. This setting may thus result in a significant improvement in the number of stacked sheets when using block nesting.
  2. The slider will be greyed out whenever the Max Quantity Per Optimized Sheet text box is set to a value of 1 or less. If a value of 0 or less is entered, the text box will automatically raise it to a minimum value of 1. Previously, if the value was set to 0, it would reset to a default value of 5 when the Processing Station was closed and re-opened.

Saw Delimited Setting Fix

  1. Issues were reported with specific settings disappearing when viewing them in the processing station interface. Users who set their output type to “SawDelimited”, then assigned custom values to the saw and processed the work order found that while their custom values are visible in the XML file and processing, they would not appear in the Saw Processing Station when reopened so it appeared blank, leading to confusion. This issue has been resolved - custom values assigned to saws should appear appropriately within the values column.

Move Part Warning

A warning has been added to the nesting tools when a part that has been moved is set to overlap with another part. When a part is detected to overlap another part, a pop-up warning will alert users, and present the following options:
  1. Yes.  Allows you to move the part
  2. No.  Places the part where it currently is
  3. Cancel.  Returns the part to is original location

Nest Editing ESC Error

  1. An issue was noted with the nesting tools, wherein moving parts, then canceling the command with the Esc key would cause an error. This issue has been resolved- canceling a command after moving a part should no longer result in an error.

Label Creation Fix

  1. There was sometimes an error that would occur for users attempting to process work orders, wherein setting the work order to generate labels would sometimes result in the order failing to process successfully, instead causing an exception error. This issue has been resolved- users should no longer experience this error when generating labels as part of processing a work order.

Optimizer Fixes

Multiple fixes have been applied to Microvellum’s Optimizer. The following issues have been resolved:
  1. New coding has been added to identify parts as FromPerfectGrain. Perfectly grained parts now have a number assigned to identify them to the software.
  2. There was a reported issue with optimizing parts that had perfect graining assigned to them, with parts sometimes failing to align correctly, and perfect graining containers sometimes disappearing from the composite.
  3. When using the current optimizer, there was sometimes an issue with specific parts (such as wall components) being erroneously rotated at random.
  4. Users reported an error occurring when attempting to launch nesting operations with products from more than 1 project as part of the work order.

  1. An issue would sometimes occur with parts in sawing operations. When parts in a sawing operation had perfect graining applied, steps in the process such as trimming would sometimes fail to apply correctly. This would sometimes result in the trim failing to register, while at other times, it would result in other parts being cut into.
  2. An issue would sometimes occur during nesting operations, wherein parts with perfect graining applied would sometimes grain match incorrectly, resulting in incorrectly placed parts or software errors to occur.
  3. Users would sometimes experience an error when processing certain parts, with the error stating that “Materials were not supplied”.

  1. A slight grammatical error between the nesting and sawing processing station, the name of the multi-run optimization setting, has been amended. Previously, the setting was referred to as “repeating optimization” in the sawing processing station, and “Enable Multi-run Optimization” in the nesting processing station.
  2. When optimizing with Trueshape enabled, it was sometimes the case that certain parts would cause the optimizer to fail to place any parts, without any warning or alerts regarding the issue.
  3. All of these issues have been resolved, and should no longer occur for users.

Machining Fixes

  1. Users reported an issue when Destroy Offal is turned on with True Shape set to high it was cutting into other parts. This issue has been resolved- parts should no longer be cut into due to the Destroy Offal setting. This also fixed an issue with Shadowline cutout widths varying.
  2. An issue was reported regarding incorrect part machining applied to parts rotated at specific angles. Namely, parts that were machined that were rotated at diagonal angles would sometimes be machined incorrectly, resulting in incorrectly cut parts.  This has been resolved.

  1. A related issue was reported wherein users would have vectors of their routing machining drop during processing. Notedly, this would only occur when processed with the Machine Cannot Offset Routing (MCOR) setting enabled.  This has been resolved.

  1. An Offset Polyline issue was reported wherein extra vectors (and thus, routes) would be incorrectly added to 2D drawings, causing incorrectly shaped parts. This issue has been resolved- a coding fix was applied to enhance the software’s ability to determine whether a route is a pocket. Additionally, the default value of parameter 4 in the PLINE5 machine token has been modified from 3;0;1;0;0 to 3;0;3;0;0.

Processing Center Improvements

  1. The Processing Center standalone application is now capable of being opened without requiring a work order to be loaded within the software. A new “Continue” button has been added to the login UI of the application to allow users to open the application without first loading a work order.

Improved Vertical Drill Optimization

  1. An improvement has been made to the optimization results of the vertical drill hole optimizer. This may result in optimal hole groupings, though results will still vary depending on the tool configuration of one’s specific machine.

Microvellum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0223.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0223.641.

Add 2D Elevation Tokens to 3D Drawings

Fig. 1: The new 2D Elevation setting.
  1. A popularly requested feature by the community has been added to the Microvellum software: the checkbox Add 2D Elevation Tokens to 3D Drawings is now available under the Drawing Preferences section of the CAD tab. This setting, when enabled, creates a 2D Elevation Drawing automatically when the 3D model of the product is drawn. This setting can be enabled simultaneously with the identical function that adds 2D Plan tokens, provided one’s drawing preferences are set to a 3D setting.
Fig. 2: The new 2D Elevation Tokens to 3D Drawings option enabled.

Processing Center Application

  1. A new Microvellum software application has been released: the Processing Center. The Processing Center application is intended to give users access to the full suite of Microvellum’s existing manufacturing tools to process existing work orders, independent of any existing CAD-based applications. It is intended to provide users with an enhanced experience and act as a replacement on the shop floor for applications like MV Production (or MicroManager). For more details about the Processing Center application, visit the following article

Processing Center Ribbon

Fig. 3: The Home tab of the embedded Processing Center's ribbon.
Fig. 4: The Labels & Reports tab of the embedded Processing Center's ribbon.
  1. In conjunction with the release of the standalone processing center application, the processing center within Microvellum AC and BSB has received an update to improve usability. The Processing Center (both in the standalone application and embedded into the software) has had a ribbon added to the top of the UI to grant users a fast, easy means of accessing the most used functions within the system. Users can now select part loading, work order management commands, scrap options, labeling and report options, and more instantly without needing to open a separate menu.

Microvellum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0213.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0213.641

File Name Fix

  1. An issue was occurring when processing work orders with the Create Sequential File Names setting enabled. When the setting was enabled, a work order being processed would sometimes experience an error, causing the batch to be deleted. This issue has been resolved, and this error should no longer occur when creating files with sequential names.

Product Processing Fix

  1. Users reported an issue occurring when processing work orders using custom tool files, wherein they would sometimes experience an error when processing simple parts (such as the Misc Panel). This issue noticeably did not occur with builds prior to 25.2.0204.641. This issue has been resolved- the error should no longer occur when processing parts using custom tool files.
  2. An issue was reportedly occurring wherein certain work orders would experience an error during processing. This issue was determined to be related to database coding, and as such, has been resolved. Work orders should no longer elicit this error.

Composite Fix

  1. It is expected when updating G-code of a work order that the composite drawing of that work order will be updated to reflect any changes. However, an issue was reported wherein users found that updating the G-code of a work order with the composite drawing open would cause the software to experience an object reference error and crash. This issue has been resolved. G-code modifications should now result in the composite changing as intended.

Xilog File Generation Fix

  1. There was a reported issue with generating files using Xilog Writer. Users who set up their G-code to generate using Xilog Writer would sometimes have the path to their G-code fail to be generated in the correct location on more recent builds. This issue has been resolved- all files set to generate with the Xilog conversion type should now generate correctly in the proper location.

Microvellum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0206.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0206.641.

Item Number Fix

  1. An issue was reported regarding item numbers in composite drawings. Users who processed work orders with multiple products reported that the item numbers would sometimes universally be set to 1.00 in the composite, regardless of the actual item number. This issue has been resolved- item numbers should no longer be set to the same number in composite drawings or any data.

Database Explorer Fix

  1. There was a reported issue with the S (subassemblies) workbook, wherein the S workbook would sometimes not appear within the Database Explorer, preventing users from modifying their subassemblies through that utility. This issue has been resolved, and the S workbook should now appear within the interface as expected.

Microvellum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0204.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0204.641.

Toolbox Brand Retirement

  1. As part of Microvellum’s ongoing alignment with the values and catalog of INNERGY, and to improve user experience, clarity, and consistency, we have updated our terminology within the software and documentation. The brand name “Toolbox” is being retired, and Microvellum’s all-in-one CAD/CAM software platform will instead be referred to as “Microvellum."

Update Improvements

  1. Multiple redundant material hatch .pat files have been removed from the update process of the software. This will ideally prevent specific custom preferences from being overridden, as well as eliminate a handful of issues caused by these files.

Subassembly Fixes

A couple of issues concerning the functionality of subassemblies were reported and resolved. The issues are as follows:
Fig. 1: The name variables appearing in spite of the subassembly not being loaded.
  1. When working with subassemblies in a product’s spreadsheet, it is expected that a subassembly needs to be loaded to edit variables like the subassembly name within the Edit Formula box. It was found that this was sometimes not the case, with some subassemblies not being loaded having no effect within the interface as to whether name variables would show.
Fig. 2: Two S workbooks appearing in Workbook Designer.
  1. When opening workbook designer after editing subassemblies, it is expected that only the latest subassemblies accessed will appear in the interface. Instead, it was found that two or more S workbooks would sometimes erroneously appear in the interface.
  2. Both issues have been resolved. Altering subassemblies should no longer result in this issue of multiple S workbooks, and Subassembly variables should display correctly when the subassembly is not currently loaded.

Splash Screen Fixes

Multiple issues centered around the Microvellum splash screen login UI have been resolved. The following issues should no longer occur:
  1. Users would sometimes experience an error when switching between configurations on the splash screen. This would noticeably occur when switching between configurations with different login requirements.
Fig. 3: The incorrectly spelled "Sofware Build".
  1. A grammatical correction has been applied to the software build section of the UI, which displays the current software build being run. The word “Sofware” has been replaced with the correct “Software”.
  1. When launching two instances of Microvellum software simultaneously, it is expected that they will both be capable of running separately (though this is not recommended). Instead, it was reported by some users that having the splash screen of both programs opened simultaneously would cause an error.
  1. An input issue with the login screen caused users to be unable to enter their password by hitting the Enter key, instead requiring them to use their mouse.
  1. The Update Available indicator on the splash screen had an issue wherein it would erroneously alert users of an update being available, even if there was none.

Report Groups Fix

  1. Users reported an issue wherein Microvellum BSB would experience errors and crashes while processing work order reports in a report group. This would only occur when a report group was assigned to the work order. This issue has been resolved and should no longer occur.

Hatch Pattern Fix

  1. When renaming a hatch pattern, it is expected that the software will register the pattern as missing and alert the user of this without issue. However, some users reported that when the hatch pattern name was changed, rather than being alerted, the software would crash. This issue has been resolved- the software should now instead only alert a user when a hatch is missing. Additionally, the alert message warning users that their hatch pattern is missing has been improved, increasing the specificity and clarity of which hatch is missing or causing the issue.

Drill Fixes

A pair of issues centered around drilling and the processing of drilling operations were resolved. The issues were:
  1. When processing drilling operations using specific values for vertical drills in one’s Toolfile, there was sometimes an error wherein the software would be unable to detect any drills capable of reaching the hole values, even if the drill’s maximum value should allow it to achieve that.
  1. When setting up a drilling operation, it was found that banking holes would sometimes fail during processing, with specific hole geometries. Banks with specific numbers of holes would sometimes drop one during processing.
  1. When opening the About Microvellum interface and attempting to create a support case (using the Create Support Case button), it was sometimes the case that the browser would open the page twice. This issue has been resolved. When creating a support case via the software interface, the page should only open a single time, as intended.

Batch Number Fix

  1. In the batch options of the processing station, it is expected when interacting with the + key of the interface that the batch number will increase accordingly with the number of times the + key is clicked. However, it was found that the button did not properly function in this regard, with the + key not increasing the batch’s name value as expected. This issue has been resolved- the + key should now increase the number of the batch name by integers of 1 (if there is a number in the batch name).

Associate Product to Wall Fix

Fig. 4: The error that appears when double clicking the option.
  1. There was a reported issue with associating products to walls. When double-clicking the option to do so in the Modify tab, rather than giving the expected warning that the command line was still active, users would instead experience an invalid input error. This issue has been resolved. Users will now receive a warning that the command line is still active.

Nesting Fix

Fig. 5: The nesting error occurring with specific tool files.
  1. Certain processing stations and tool files were reportedly having difficulty fully processing a work order. When trying to complete an operation using specific nesting tool files, it was sometimes the case that the operation would experience an error, causing the current batch to be deleted. This issue has been resolved; this error should no longer occur when processing work orders.

Product Prompt Fixes

A handful of issues surrounding product prompts were resolved with this build. The following issues should no longer occur:
  1. When copying a product with bays between rooms using the product viewer, it is expected that the product will update accordingly and correctly when being redrawn in the new room. However, it was found that products with bays would sometimes calculate incorrectly when redrawn.
  1. When working with product calculators in the spreadsheet, it is expected that the values of various calculators being left blank will not affect any associated calculators. Users reported an issue wherein having blank values in one calculator would cause the calculators after them chronologically to be unable to open.
  1. Product bay size would sometimes calculate incorrectly when altering specific dimensions of products. For instance, a product with bays would sometimes fail to recalculate the size of those bays accordingly when the width of the product was increased.
Fig. 6: The product angle prompt in the interface.
  1. When working with prompts, it may sometimes be necessary or desired to control the angle of the product as it is placed on a wall. As such, products have a prompt to control product angle (ProductAngle), which can be added to the Product Prompts interface through modification. However, it was found that this prompt would sometimes not function correctly, with the product not filling in the angle correctly when this prompt is defined within the design data.

Post-Processor and Optimizer Decoupling

  1. The machine code post-processor and optimizer have been decoupled from Microvellum’s core codebase. This architectural update allows the post-processor and optimizer to operate independently, enabling integration with both Microvellum and INNERGY DESIGN in a disconnected state.
  1. This change improves modularity and long-term maintainability while providing greater flexibility for how machine code generation and optimization are deployed across platforms.

Microvellum Release Notes | Build 25.2.0114.641

The following release notes apply to Microvellum build 25.2.0114.641

Processing Center Message Fix

Fig. 1: An error message running in the background of the software.
  1. An issue was reported within the Processing Center. When processing an order, there would sometimes be an issue wherein error alerts or pop-ups would not appear within the interface, but instead in the background of the program. This could lead to situations wherein users would sometimes assume the software had crashed or frozen during processing, prompting unnecessary shutdowns or closure. This issue has been resolved, and alerts should now appear directly on screen when processing work orders, as intended.

Optimizer Change

Fig. 2: The new checkbox to enable the legacy optimizer.
  1.  Microvellum’s Beta process for the new optimizer has concluded. With this, the Beta Optimizer has been set as the default option for optimization and will be referred to as the standard Microvellum optimizer in the future. To reflect this change, the option to use the Legacy optimizer has been changed in the interface from a drop-down menu to a checkbox.

Saw Trim Value Fix

  1. When processing a sawing operation using Microvellum’s current Optimizer, an issue would sometimes occur in which two values would be incorrectly controlled by a single option. When setting the value of the Leading Length of a part, it was sometimes the case that the Leading Width would be set to the same value, with the “Leading Length” option controlling both options. This issue has been resolved; the Leading Length value should no longer affect the Leading Width value.

Label Output Fix

Fig. 3: The "Shorten Gcode Output Path" setting in the Tool File interface.
  1. Users reported an issue with the Autolabeling setting, wherein label image files would sometimes be placed in the incorrect location. When “Shorten GCode Output Path” option is enabled, it is expected that all output files will be placed a single assigned folder location, being added to multiple newly created subfolders. Some users instead found that even with the setting enabled, new subfolders would be created for label image files. This issue has been resolved, and should no longer occur. With the setting enabled, label image files should be placed in a single folder, as intended.

Module Access

  1. In alignment with Microvellum’s new values-focused announcement on January 14th regarding changes to how Microvellum is packaged, this update provides access to all Microvellum Software Modules and features to any Microvellum user with an active subscription or current Support and Maintenance plan. This ensures full availability of tools across design, drafting, engineering, and manufacturing workflows without requiring separate module access. Users who update to this build will see the list of modules they previously purchased and which ones have been unlocked in the UI only once during the first startup of the software after updating. After the initial startup, this list will no longer appear, as all features and modules will be unlocked, removing the need for a module list.

About Microvellum UI Overhaul

Fig. 4: The new layout of the "About Microvellum" UI.
  1. Accompanying Microvellum’s subscription model changes, the About Microvellum interface has undergone a visual change, relocating multiple options to a more linear, seamless list, as well as removed the module tracking section of the interface, due to the full integration of all Software Modules.
